USAC Stock Car
The USAC Stock Car division was the stock car racing class sanctioned by the United States Auto Club (USAC). The division raced nationally; drivers from USAC's open wheel classes like American Championship car racing, Indy cars, Silver Crown, sprint car racing, sprints, and midget car racing, midgets frequently competed in races and won championships. Several NASCAR drivers raced in USAC Stock Cars at various points in their careers. In the late 1950s, USAC Stock Cars rivaled NASCAR stock cars with races throughout the Midwestern United States, Midwestern and Northeastern United States, Northeastern United States. Paul Goldsmith
Paul Edward Goldsmith (October 2, 1925 – September 6, 2024) was an American racing driver. During his career he raced A.M.A. Grand National Championship, motorcycles, Stock car racing, stock cars, and American open-wheel car racing, Indianapolis cars, achieving success in each discipline. Goldsmith won the USAC Stock Car national championship in 1961 and 1962, driving a Pontiac (automobile), Pontiac for Ray Nichels. Earlier in his career, he was a successful motorcycle racer within the American Motorcyclist Association, AMA circuit, capturing the Daytona 200 for Harley-Davidson in 1953. In 1958, driving a Pontiac for Smokey Yunick, Goldsmith won the final NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR stock car race on the Daytona Beach and Road Course, Daytona Beach road course. Stock car racing is a form of Auto racing, automobile racing run on oval track racing, oval tracks and road courses. It originally used Production vehicle, production-model cars, hence the name "stock car", but is now run using cars specifically built for racing. The Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is an auto racing sanctioning body in the United States, founded in 1953 by John Marcum. A subsidiary of NASCAR since 2018, the current president of ARCA is Ron Drager, who took over the position in 1996 following the death of Bob Loga. Month Of May (Indianapolis 500)
Due to the longevity of the Indianapolis 500, numerous traditions surrounding the race have developed over the years. Traditions include procedures for the running of the race, scheduling, and pre-race and post-race festivities. For many fans, these traditions are an important aspect of the race, and they have often reacted quite negatively when the traditions are changed or broken. As part of the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the pre-race ceremonies of the Indianapolis 500 feature several patriotic songs.
