UNLV Rebels
The UNLV Rebels are the college athletics in the United States, intercollegiate athletics teams that represent the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). The Rebels compete in the NCAA Division I (NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Bowl Subdivision for college football) as a member of the Mountain West Conference. The school's colors are Scarlet (color), scarlet and Grey, gray. The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, was initially known as Nevada Southern when it was formed as a southern extension of the University of Nevada in 1958, and did not have a nickname or mascot for its athletic teams until 1968. Some of the Rebels teams use variations of the team name for their individual sports, such as the UNLV Runnin' Rebels basketball, Runnin' Rebels for men's basketball and the UNLV Rebels baseball, Hustlin' Rebels for the baseball team. Martin Kevin Cordova (born July 10, 1969) is an American former professional baseball left fielder who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Minnesota Twins, Toronto Blue Jays, Cleveland Indians, and Baltimore Orioles. He was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. Before embarking on a major league career, Cordova played six seasons in the minor leagues. UNLV Rebels Women's Volleyball
The UNLV Rebels women's volleyball team competes as part of NCAA Division I, representing the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the Mountain West. UNLV plays its home games at the Cox Pavilion. History UNLV started their volleyball program in 1978 as a Division 1 independent team. They finished their first season with a 10-7 record. From 1978 to 1980 UNLV would remain independent and pose an overall record of 29-23-2. UNLV did not field a volleyball team from 1981 to 1983 but started up again in 1984 as a Big West Conference member. They would only be in the Big West for 2 seasons before again suspending the volleyball program, this time for 11 years.
