UNIOGBIS
The United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Guinea-Bissau (UNIOGBIS) is a United Nations peacebuilding mission in Guinea-Bissau. It was established by Resolution 1876 of the United Nations Security Council in 2009 and succeeded the United Nations Peacebuilding Support Office in Guinea-Bissau (UNOGBIS). It is tasked with promoting stability in the country. United Nations Security Council Resolution 1876
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1876 was unanimously adopted on 26 June 2009. Resolution The Security Council today extended the mandate of the United Nations Peacebuilding Support Office in Guinea-Bissau (UNOGBIS) until 31 December and requested the Secretary-General to establish a United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Guinea-Bissau (UNIOGBIS) to succeed it for an initial period of 12 months after that. Unanimously adopting resolution 1876 (2009), the Council underlined the importance of establishing a fully integrated office with effective coordination of strategies and programmes between United Nations agencies, funds and programmes, between the United Nations and international donors, and between UNIOGBIS, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and other United Nations missions in the region. United Nations Peacebuilding Support Office In Guinea-Bissau
The United Nations Peacebuilding Support Office in Guinea-Bissau (UNOGBIS) was established by the United Nations Security Council in its Resolution 1233 in April 1999 to facilitate the general election and implementation of the Abuja Accord. This followed a ceasefire agreement signed in Praia on 26 August 1998 reaffirmed on 1 November (known as the Abuja Accord) with the promise of elections with an additional protocol arranging for a government of national unity signed on 15 December and strengthened by United Nations Security Council Resolution 1216. The agreement was overseen by ECOMOG and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The mandate of UNOGBIS was extended following the 1999 elections into the post-electoral period. Rosine Sori-Coulibaly
Rosine Sori-Coulibaly (born 1958) is a Burkinabé economist and politician. She served as the minister of foreign affairs from 2021 to 2022. After being in the running to become the prime minister of Burkina Faso, she served as the minister of economy, finance and development from 2016 to 2019. Guinea-Bissau was claimed by Portugal from the 1450s to the 1970s. However, Portuguese control of the region was limited to forts along the coast. Portugal gained full control of the mainland after the pacification campaigns of 1912-15, the offshore Bijago islands weren't colonised until 1936 establishing total control of Guinea-Bissau.
