UFO Flap
A UFO flap is a rash of reports of unidentified airborne objects. ''Flap'', originally a military term to describe a "period of panic or chaos", is used by ufologists to describe surges of sightings in one geographical area. Longer surges spanning multiple countries may be called ''waves''. Reported sightings of UFOs, public interest in them, and news coverage are highly variable in frequency. The terms ''UFO'', ''flap'', and ''wave'' allow for sightings of various unrelated phenomena in the night sky to be discussed as if they are parts of the same aerial event. The Report On Unidentified Flying Objects
''The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects'' is a 1956 book by then-retired Air Force UFO investigator Edward J. Ruppelt, detailing his experience running Project Blue Book. The book was noted for its suggestion that a few UFO sightings might be linked to spikes of atomic radiation. Twin Falls Saucer Hoax
The Twin Falls saucer hoax was a hoaxed flying disc discovered in Twin Falls, Idaho, United States, on July 11, 1947. Amid a nationwide wave of alleged "flying disc" sightings, residents of Twin Falls reported recovering a "disc". FBI and Army officials took possession of the disc and quickly proclaimed the object to be a hoax. Press reported that local teenagers admitted to perpetrating the hoax. Background On June 24, 1947, civilian pilot Kenneth Arnold reported a sighting of 'flying discs'. By June 27, disc sightings were being reported nation-wide. Belgian UFO Wave
The Belgian UFO wave was a series of sightings of triangular UFOs in Belgium, which lasted from 29 November 1989 to April 1990. The sightings The Belgian UFO wave began in November 1989. Reports were filed, most many weeks after the events. Many of the reports related a large object flying at low altitude. Some reports also stated that the craft was of a flat, triangular shape, with lights underneath. The Belgian UFO wave peaked with the events of the night of March 30th, 1990. On that night, one unknown object was tracked on radar, and two Belgian Air Force F-16s were sent to investigate, with neither pilot reporting seeing the object. Gulf Breeze UFO Incident
The Gulf Breeze UFO incident was a series of claimed UFO sightings in Gulf Breeze, Florida, United States, during late 1987 and early 1988. Beginning in November 1987, the ''Gulf Breeze Sentinel'' newspaper published a number of photos supplied to them by local contractor Ed Walters that were claimed to show a UFO. UFOlogists such as Bruce Maccabee believed the photographs were genuine; however, others strongly suspected them to be a hoax. ''Pensacola News Journal'' reporter Craig Myers investigated Walters' claims a few years later, criticizing the ''Sentinel''s coverage of the story as "uncritical" and "sensationalist". In 1990, after Walters and his family had moved, the new owners of their house discovered a styrofoam model UFO hidden in the attic. The 1984 Hudson Valley UFO Sightings, also called "The Westchester Boomerang", were UFO sightings that stretched throughout 1983–1984 in New York and Western Connecticut. Pilots flew Cessna 152s in tight formation with bright lights that could change colors. State police reported that the pilots expressed amusement at the confusion caused by their hoax. Subsequent news stories, books, and other publicity helped make the sightings significant in local history and ufology lore. This is a list of alleged sightings of unidentified flying objects or UFOs in Brazil. 1947 * On 23 July 1947, topographer José Higgins was working with many laborers in Bauru, São Paulo.
