UEFA Euro 1964
The 1964 European Nations' Cup was the second edition of the UEFA European Championship. The final tournament was held in Spain. It was won by the hosts 2–1 over the defending champions, the Soviet Union. The tournament was a knockout competition; 29 teams entered (Greece withdrew after the draw after refusing to play Albania). The Soviet Union, Austria and Luxembourg received byes to the round of 16. The teams played home-and-away matches until the semi-finals; the final four teams would move on to the final tournament, whose host was selected after the teams became known. Luxembourg proved to be the giant-killers of the qualifying rounds; they beat the Netherlands 3–2 on aggregate (1–1 and 2–1), and then drew with Denmark 3–3 and 2–2, before losing the replay 1–0. Ferenc Bene
Ferenc Bene (17 December 1944 – 27 February 2006) was a Hungarian footballer who played as a striker for Újpest and Hungary. He was a member of the team that won the gold medal at the 1964 Summer Olympics, in which he was the top scorer of the tournament with 12 goals in just 5 matches. He is the sixth most prolific goalscorer in total matches in recorded history according to RSSSF with over 1425 goals scored in over 1480 matches, which results in a goal-per-match ratio of almost one. Bene was a successful striker for Újpesti Dózsa (303 goals in 418 matches) and the Hungary national team (36 goals in 76 matches). Amancio Amaro
Amancio Amaro Varela (16 October 1939 – 21 February 2023), commonly known simply as Amancio, was a Spanish football player. Nicknamed ''El Brujo'' (The Wizard) he played outside right for Deportivo de La Coruña, Real Madrid, and the Spain national team. Club career Early career Amancio began his career aged 15 at local side Victoria, in the district of Falperra–Santa Lucía. In the 1958–59 season, he joined Deportivo de La Coruña, which at that time was in the Spanish second division. Concetto Lo Bello
Concetto Lo Bello (13 May 1924 – 9 September 1991) was an Italian association football international referee. He holds the record for refereeing the most games in Serie A (328). His career spanned from 1944 to 1974, refereeing his first international match in 1958. He officiated in 34 international matches, including the West Germany–USSR semi-final in 1966. He had been provisionally chosen to referee the 1970 FIFA World Cup Final, but the Italian team reached the final, so he could not officiate. Lo Bello also refereed the European Cup finals of 1968 and 1970, as well as the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup 2nd leg final in 1966 and the UEFA Europa League second-leg final in 1974. Arthur Holland (referee)
Arthur Holland (26 November 1916 – March 1987) was an English football referee. Career Born in Barnsley, Holland became a Football League linesman in 1947 and graduated to the Referees List in 1951, taking charge of the FA Amateur Cup Final in 1959. Later, in the same year he was appointed to the FIFA List and later refereed in the 1963 European Cup final between Benfica and Milan. He ended his domestic refereeing career with the 1964 FA Cup final between West Ham United and Preston North End. Antoine "Arthur" Blavier (28 January 1914 – 15 September 1991) was a Belgian football referee. Refereeing career Blavier spent his career refereeing in the Belgian First Division A, the top flight of Belgian football. In 1960, he was appointed as a FIFA referee.
