U.S. Highway 92 (US 92) is a U.S. Route entirely in the state of Florida. The western terminus is at US 19 Alternate (US 19 Alt.) and State Road 687 (SR 687)) in downtown St. Petersburg. The eastern terminus is at SR A1A in Daytona Beach. Originally the main thouroughfare connecting the major cities of Central Florida, this has since been superseded by Interstate 4 (I-4), which runs almost entirely the same route. For about half of its length, US 92 runs concurrently with US 17. State Road 687 (SR 687) is a north–south state road located solely within the borders of St. Petersburg, Florida. The road runs from Interstate 175 north to Interstate 375 along both 3rd Street and 4th Street. 3rd Street in a one-way route traveling northbound and 4th street is a one-way route traveling southbound. The intersections included on SR 687 on both 3rd Street and 4th Street extend between 5th Ave S and 5th Ave N in downtown St. Petersburg. U.S. Highway 19 Alternate (US 19 Alt.) is a former section of US 19 from St. Petersburg to Holiday, Florida. Beginning at the intersection of 4th Street North ( US 92 and State Road 687 (SR 687) and 5th Avenue North in St. Petersburg, it runs west of US 19 near the Gulf coast passing through the cities of Seminole, Clearwater, Dunedin, and Tarpon Springs before ending at US 19 in Holiday, Pasco County. Gandy Bridge is a bridge spanning Tampa Bay, Old Tampa Bay from St. Petersburg, Florida to Tampa, Florida. The original 1924 span was dismantled in 1975. The second span, constructed in 1956, was used for vehicular traffic until 1997. The third (1975) and fourth (1996) spans of the Gandy Bridge are currently being used for U.S. Route 92, US 92 vehicle traffic, carrying eastbound and westbound respectively.
