Branford is a town in Suwannee County, Florida, United States. The population was 711 at the 2020 census. History The Town of Branford was officially incorporated as a municipality in 1961, although it's been settled since the late 1800s, and was expanded and renamed in 1886. The original name was "''Rowland’s Bluff''" in the late 19th century when the settlement consisted of a sawmill and a ferry crossing across the Suwannee River into Lafayette County. The railroad was extended by Henry B. Plant from Live Oak to Branford in 1886, and the community was named "''New Branford''" after Branford, Connecticut, Henry Plant’s hometown. State Road 20 (SR 20) is a east-to-west route across northern Florida and the Florida Panhandle in the United States. Route description Okaloosa County (Niceville and Bluewater Bay) SR 20 starts at SR 85 in Niceville as John Sims Parkway, which travels to Eglin AFB East Gate through Valparaiso as westbound SR 85 and southbound SR 397. Route description The western terminus of SR 26 is at US 19/ 98/ 27 Alternate (unsigned SR 55) in Fanning Springs, near the Gilchrist/ Levy county line.
