U-Tex Wranglers
The U/Tex Wranglers were a professional basketball team and one of the pioneers of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) in its maiden season in 1975. History Universal Textile Mills, Inc., a company owned by Patricio Luis "P. L." Lim and Walter Euyang, formed the U-Tex Spinners in 1960, playing in the Businessman Athletic Association (BAA), a minor league. It transferred to the MICAA in 1961. By the 1970s, the team was competing in the MICAA as the U/Tex Weavers. They were bannered by the likes of Lawrence "Larry" Mumar, Danny Basilan and Lucio Lim. Others who donned the Weavers jersey were Francis Arnaiz, Jumbo Salvador, Roehl Nadurata, Clemente Bargas, Orly de los Santos and Domingo Celis. The Weavers were led by Freddie Hubalde, Danny Basilan, and Ricky Pineda when they won the 1973 Dona Edralin Marcos Cup held at the Loyola Center. Carlos Loyzaga
Carlos "Caloy" Matute Loyzaga (August 29, 1930 – January 27, 2016) was a Filipino basketball player and coach. He was the most dominant basketball player of his era in the Philippines and is considered as the greatest Filipino basketball player of all time. Loyzaga was a two-time Olympian (1952, 1956), as a member of the Philippine national team. Early life Loyzaga was born in San Jose, Mindoro (now Occidental Mindoro) on August 29, 1930. He was the fourth child of Joaquín Loyzaga Sr. and Carmen Matute. His father was a football player and a member of the Philippine national team which competed and won medals at the Far Eastern Championship Games. Loyzaga survived the Second World War together with his mother, sister, and two brothers. Danilo Florencio
Danilo Zoleta Florencio (September 5, 1947 – February 25, 2018) was a Filipino professional basketball player in the Philippine Basketball Association. He was known as "Daredevil Danny" and the original "Skywalker" in Philippine basketball. Collegiate/Amateur Career Florencio played for the UST Glowing Goldies from 1965–1967. After he left UST, joined the national team soon after, and became a member of the RP Team that finished second in the 1971 ABC Championships in Tokyo, which earned them a berth in the 1972 Munich Olympics. This was the last time the Philippine national basketball team qualified for the Olympics. Leo Prieto
Leopoldo L. Prieto, Sr. (May 19, 1920 – April 7, 2009) was a Filipino sports executive who served as the first commissioner of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Prieto also was a president of the Manila Jockey Club and a supporter of football in the Philippines. Acknowledged as "the father of the PBA", Prieto was named commissioner of the PBA upon its founding in 1975 and served in that capacity until his resignation in 1983. During Prieto's tenure as commissioner, the PBA prominently featured the rivalry between Crispa and Toyota. Prieto was lauded for his integrity and his ability to manage egos. Prieto himself described the requirements expected of a PBA commissioner as one "must have a good grasp of the game" and one who "the PBA Board of Governors can trust and respect." The Utah Jazz are an American professional basketball team based in Salt Lake City. Aaron James (born October 5, 1952) is a retired American professional basketball player. He spent his entire five-year National Basketball Association (NBA) career with the New Orleans Jazz. Byron "Snake" Jones is a retired American basketball player. Born in North Carolina, he played for the University of San Francisco. He was selected by the Boston Celtics in the 5th round (86th pick overall) of the 1973 NBA draft. Background Nicknamed "the Snake", Jones grew up in North Carolina and played basketball at a Selma, Alabama junior college before enrolling at the University of San Francisco.
