Transportation Research Board
The Transportation Research Board (TRB) is a division of the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, formerly the National Research Council of the United States, which serves as an independent adviser to the President of the United States, the Congress and federal agencies on scientific and technical questions of national importance. It is jointly administered by the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the National Academy of Medicine. Transportation safety in the United States encompasses safety of transportation in the United States, including automobile crashes, airplane crashes, rail crashes, and other mass transit incidents, although the most fatalities are generated by road incidents yearly killing from 32,479 to nearly 38,680 (+%) in the last decade. The number of deaths per passenger-mile on commercial airlines in the United States between 2000 and 2010 was about 0.2 deaths per 10 billion passenger-miles. For driving, the rate was 150 per 10 billion vehicle-miles: 750 times higher per mile than for flying in a commercial airplane. World Conference On Transport Research Society
The World Conference on Transport Research Society (WCTRS) is an international research organization dedicated to transportation research. The scope of the society is multi-modal, multi-disciplinary, and multi-sectorial transportation research. The Society organizes every three years the World Conferences on Transportation Research in different parts of the world. The WCTRS has representatives and members in 67 countries and geographical areas around the World. Currently Professor Tae Hoon Oum from the University of British Columbia (Canada) is the president. National Cooperative Highway Research Program
The National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) conducts research in problem areas that affect highway planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance in the United States. Spearheaded by the Transportation Research Board (TRB), part of the National Academies of Sciences Engineering and Medicine, it is jointly supported by federal agencies, state departments of transportation, and other nonprofit organizations. TRIS Online
The Transportation Research Information Services online (Tris online) was a bibliographic database funded by sponsors of the United States Transportation Research Board (TRB), primarily the USA state departments of transportation and selected US federal transportation agencies. TRIS Online was hosted by the National Transportation Library under a cooperative agreement between the Bureau of Transportation Statistics and TRB. TRIS provided access to over 300,000 bibliographic records covering transportation research published in books, journal articles, technical reports and the media.
