Tõnu Naissoo
Tõnu Naissoo (born 18 March 1951) is an Estonian composer and jazz pianist. Naissoo Tõnn was born in Tallinn. He is the son of composer Uno Naissoo. He began studying classical piano at the age of six at the Tallinn Music School, graduating in 1970 with a degree in music theory. In 1982 he graduated from the Tallinn State Conservatory in composition under instruction from Eino Tamberg. He has played on several musical groups, including Tõnu Naissoo Trio, Optimistid (1967–1968), Collage (1967–1972), Sinilind (1971–1972), Laine (1972–1976), Synthesis (1977–1980), Kaseke (1980–1981). About 30 years he has been a pianist in the Viru Hotel. He has written music for films and theatrical stages. Viru Hotel
The Original Sokos Hotel Viru is a hotel in Tallinn, Estonia. It was Estonia's first high-rise building and is connected to the Viru Keskus shopping center. It is owned by Sokos Hotels. History The Hotel Viru was built by Intourist, the government tourist monopoly of the Soviet Union. It was constructed by the Repo Oy construction company, based in Savonlinna, Finland. Work began in July 1969. However, a fire broke out on the 10th floor of the project in December 1969, and the Finnish company went bankrupt as a result. Another Finnish company, Haka Oy, completed the hotel in May 1972 and the Hotel Viru opened on June 14, 1972. During the Soviet era, the 23rd floor of the hotel contained a KGB listening center, used to spy on hotel guests. Sixty of the hotel's rooms had concealed espionage devices and some restaurant tables had listening devices. Laine is an Estonian band which was established in 1960 being a part of Estonian SSR State Philharmonic (nowadays Eesti Kontsert). During Soviet era, the band was almost only one who introduced Estonian pop music to other Soviet republics and also outside Soviet Union.
