Tyson Kozak
Tyson Kozak (born December 29, 2002) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Sabres selected him in the seventh round, with the 193rd overall pick, of the 2021 NHL entry draft. Early life Kozak was born December 29, 2002, in Souris, Manitoba, to Trevor and Michelle Kozak. He grew up playing ice hockey and baseball around the Brandon, Manitoba, area. Kozak played minor ice hockey with the Southwest Cougars of the Manitoba U-18 'AAA' Hockey League. During the 2018–19 season, he scored 26 goals and recorded 72 points in 40 games. Playing career Junior The Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League (WHL) selected Kozak in the sixth round, with the 121st overall pick, of the 2017 WHL bantam draft, and he signed with the team the following August. Souris, Manitoba
Souris (2021 population: 1,970) is an unincorporated urban community in the Municipality of Souris-Glenwood within the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Manitoba that held town status prior to the 2015 Manitoba municipal amalgamations, Manitoba municipal amalgamations on January 1, 2015. Portland Winterhawks
The Portland Winterhawks are a junior ice hockey team based in Portland, Oregon. Founded in 1950 as the Edmonton Oil Kings, the team relocated to Portland in 1976 and was known as the Winter Hawks until 2009. The team plays in the U.S. Division of the Western Hockey League (WHL), one of three constituent leagues of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). NHL Central Scouting Bureau
The NHL Central Scouting Services (CSS) is a department within the National Hockey League (NHL) that ranks prospects for the NHL entry draft at specific times during the hockey season. Players are ranked based on how well they will translate to the professional game in the NHL. It was founded by hockey executive Jack Button in 1975, to establish a centralized database of NHL prospects. Button served as the director until 1979. Its current director is Dan Marr. The Department consists of staff at the NHL Offices in Toronto, along with eight full-time scouts, and fifteen part-time scouts throughout North America. 2020–21 WHL Season
The 2020–21 WHL season was the 55th season of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The season began on February 26 and ended on May 12. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and a late start, the season was shortened from 68 to 24 games, and the WHL officially termed the season as a "developmental season". Teams played within their respective divisions only: the Central Division consisted exclusively of Alberta-based teams, the U.S. Division played exclusively in Washington state, all B.C.-based teams played from either Sandman Centre or Prospera Place in Kamloops and Kelowna, British Columbia, and all East Division games were played at Brandt Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan. Winger (ice Hockey)
Winger, in the game of ice hockey, is a forward position of a player whose primary zone of play is along the outer playing areas. They typically flank the centre forward. Originally the name was given to forward players who went up and down the sides of the rink. Wingers generally have the least defensive responsibilities out of any position on the ice, however they are still tasked with defensive duties such as forechecking duties or covering the point in the defensive zone. Nowadays, there are different types of wingers in the game — out-and-out goal scorers, checkers who disrupt the opponents, and forwards who work along the boards and in the corners. The Vancouver Giants are a Canadian major junior ice hockey team playing based in Langley, British Columbia, and playing in the Western Hockey League (WHL). The Tri-City Americans are an American major junior ice hockey team playing in the Western Hockey League and based in Kennewick, Washington. Founded in 1966 as the Calgary Buffaloes, the team settled in Kennewick in 1988 after a number of relocations. The team plays its home games at Toyota Center, which was purpose-built for the team. The 2019–20 WHL season was the 54th season of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The regular season began on September 20, 2019, and was scheduled to end on March 22, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in North America the regular season was suspended on March 12 and cancelled six days later along with the playoffs. The post-season had been scheduled to begin on March 27, in which sixteen teams would have competed for the Ed Chynoweth Cup. This was the first season for the Winnipeg Ice after being moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, from Cranbrook, British Columbia. Suspension and cancellation of season On March 12, the WHL suspended the season until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Black Aces (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, particularly the National Hockey League (NHL), Black Aces are players that are added to a team's roster during the Stanley Cup playoffs. They often consist of minor league players in the team's organization, and practice with the team during the playoffs in case of any injury or otherwise to players in the lineup. Origin The term "Black Ace" refers to the poker hand known as the dead man's hand, which includes the two black ace cards. The term was first applied in a hockey sense by Hockey Hall of Famer Eddie Shore, who, when he owned the Springfield Indians of the American Hockey League (AHL), would use the term "Black Ace" to refer to extra players on his roster who were returning from injury. The 2019 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships (''2019 WJC'') was the 43rd edition of the Ice Hockey World Junior Championship. It began on December 26, 2018, and ended with the gold medal game being played on January 5, 2019. This marked the 15th time that Canada hosted the WJC. On December 1, 2016, it was announced that Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia had won the bid to host the 2019 World Juniors. Cody Glass (born April 1, 1999) is a Canadian professional ice hockey Forward (ice hockey), forward for the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League (NHL). Glass was the first-ever draft selection in Vegas Golden Knights franchise history, after he was drafted sixth overall in the 2017 NHL entry draft, and has also played for the Nashville Predators.
