The 2001 Pacific typhoon season was an average season with twenty-six named storms, sixteen typhoons and three super typhoons, with a near normal Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) of 307.3 units. It ran year-round in 2001, with most tropical cyclones in the northwestern Pacific Ocean tending between May and November. The early season was relatively inactive, with the first named storm, Cimaron, not developing until May 9. Taiwan suffered the most destruction from typhoons this year, with Typhoons Toraji, Nari, and Lekima being responsible for nearly 300 deaths in that island alone, making it one of the deadliest typhoon seasons in recorded history in that island. Typhoon Wipha, known in the Philippines as Super Typhoon Goring, was the strongest typhoon to threaten the Chinese coastline since Typhoon Saomai in August 2006. Forming out of a tropical disturbance on September 15, 2007, it quickly developed into a tropical storm, and intensified into a typhoon the following day with the appearance of an Eye (cyclone), eye feature. After a period of rapid deepening, rapid intensification, Wipha attained its peak intensity on September 18, with winds of and a barometric pressure of 925 mbar (hPa), according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. Later that day, the storm began to weaken as it interacted with the mountainous terrain of Taiwan before brushing the northern edge of the island. Typhoon Wipha (2013)
Typhoon Wipha, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Tino, was a large tropical cyclone, typhoon that caused extensive damage in Japan in mid-October 2013. The system originated from a tropical depression well to the east of Guam on October 8. Tracking generally westward, development of the depression was initially slow; however, on October 11, favorable atmospheric conditions allowed for Rapid deepening, rapid intensification. The depression strengthened to a tropical storm that day, receiving the name ''Wipha'' at the time, and reached typhoon status on October 12. Now moving northwestward, Wipha grew into a very large system and ultimately attained its peak intensity on October 14 with winds of 165 km/h (105 mph) and an atmospheric pressure of 930 Bar (unit), mbar (Pascal (unit), hPa; 27.46 Inches of Mercury, inHg). Tropical Storm Wipha was a tropical cyclone that caused significant damages in Vietnam and China in early August 2019. Wipha was the eleventh depression, and the ninth tropical storm of the 2019 Pacific typhoon season. Meteorological history On July 30, a tropical depression formed in the South China Sea near the Paracel Islands and Hainan. On the next day, it strengthened into a tropical storm, and the JMA named it Wipha. By July 31, the JTWC upgraded Wipha to a tropical storm, with Wipha making landfall on Hainan Island at peak intensity.
