Tyla Flexman
Tyla Flexman (born July 16, 1986 in New Westminster, British Columbia) is a field hockey player from Canada who played midfield for the Canadian Women's National Field Hockey Team from 2004 to 2012. She started playing field hockey in grade 8 at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School (Vancouver) and played for the Junior Women's National Field Hockey Team from 2004 to 2005, competing in the Junior Pan Am Cup and Junior World Cup in 2005. In 2008, she played her 5th and final year with the University of British Columbia and was selected as the National Gail Wilson Award winner as well as Canada West Player of the Year while completing her degree in Human Kinetics. She was selected to the Senior Women's National Field Hockey Team in 2008 and played center midfield for the team (#18) until her retirement in 2012. Canada Women's National Field Hockey Team
The Canada women's national field hockey team participates in international field hockey competitions. In 1991, the Canadian men's and women's programs united under the national umbrella of Field Hockey Canada to share funding and infrastructure. The women's team made its first international appearance at the 1978 Women's Hockey World Cup in Madrid, Spain, finishing in fifth place. They were the runner-up at the 1983 Women's Hockey World Cup and the bronze medalists at the 1986 Women's Hockey World Cup. The Canadian women's team participated in the women's international tournament for the first time in 1956. In 1979 Canada hosted 18 countries in Vancouver for that world event; Canada placed 8th. Canada At The 2010 Commonwealth Games
Canada competed in the 2010 Commonwealth Games which were held in Delhi, India from October 3–14, 2010. Canada competed in 15 out of 17 sports with the exceptions being netball (team did not qualify) and tennis (scheduling conflicts). Canada's team consisted of 251 athletes, which was a decrease of 3 from the 2006 games. However, the events at these games were much more than they were in 2006. 2009 Women's Pan American Cup
The 2009 Women's Pan American Cup was the 3rd edition of the Women's Pan American Cup, the quadrennial international women's field hockey championship of the Americas organised by the Pan American Hockey Federation. It was held between 7 and 15 February 2009 in Hamilton, Bermuda. The tournament doubled as the qualifier to the 2010 World Cup to be held in Rosario, Argentina. The winner would qualify directly while teams ranked between second and sixth would have the chance to obtain one of three berths at the World Cup Qualifiers. The top six teams also qualified for the 2013 Women's Pan American Cup. Argentina won the tournament for the third consecutive time after defeating the United States 7–6 in the final on penalty strokes after a 2–2 draw.
