Twyla Beth Baker (born October 4, 1976) is an American Indian (Hidatsa) academic administrator serving as the seventh president of Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College since 2014. She was previously a Native health researcher focused on Health Statistics, health statistics and elder abuse. Life Baker was born on October 4, 1976 in New Town, North Dakota on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation. She is an enrolled member of Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation. Her parents spoke Hidatsa language, Hidatsa but Baker did not learn the language. She attended Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College (NHS College). She earned a B.S. in environmental geology and technology (2002) and M.S. in education general studies (2005) from the University of North Dakota (UND). Twyla M. Hansen (born 1949) is an American poet, who served as the Nebraska State Poet until 2018. She is the third Nebraskan and first woman to hold this position, to which she was appointed by Governor Dave Heineman in November 2013. Life Hansen was raised near the town of Lyons in northeast Nebraska and currently lives in Lincoln. She holds a bachelor's degree in horticulture and a master's degree in agroecology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. While working as grounds manager and arboretum curator at Nebraska Wesleyan University, Hansen took classes from poet William Kloefkorn, who became one of her mentors. Hansen was appointed to replace Kloefkorn as Nebraska State Poet after his death in 2011. Twyla Herbert (born Twila Moody; July 27, 1921 – July 11, 2009) was an American songwriter known for her long songwriting partnership with the singer Lou Christie. Beginnings Twila Moody was born in Riverside, California, and as a child moved with her parents to Pennsylvania, where she married Earle Herbert (d.1982). In the late 1950s, Lou Christie was 15 years old when he met Herbert, a "bohemian gypsy, psychic, and former concert pianist," at an audition in a church basement in his hometown, Glenwillard, Pennsylvania. Over 20 years older than he was, with flaming red hair, she was a self-described clairvoyant and mystic who allegedly predicted which of their songs would become hits. Twyla Mason Gray (October 26, 1954 – October 3, 2011) was a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 1980 to 1984, representing district 23. She was an advocate for cancer-related health care as well as the raising of the drinking age in Oklahoma to 19 years old. After her time in the House, Mason Gray received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Tulsa and was a municipal judge from 1994 to 1999. She was elected as District Judge for Oklahoma County in 1999 and served in that position until her death in 2011 after battling with breast cancer. Twyla Tharp (; born July 1, 1941) is an American dancer, choreographer, and author who lives and works in New York City. In 1965 she formed the company Twyla Tharp Dance, which merged with American Ballet Theatre in 1988. She regrouped the company in 1991. Her work often uses classical, jazz, and contemporary pop music. From 1971 to 1988, Twyla Tharp Dance toured extensively around the world, performing original works. In 1973 Tharp choreographed '' Deuce Coupe'' to the music of The Beach Boys for the Joffrey Ballet. ''Deuce Coupe'' is considered the first "crossover ballet", a mix of ballet and modern dance. Later she choreographed ''Push Comes to Shove'' (1976), which featured Mikhail Baryshnikov and is now thought to be the best example of crossover ballet.
