Twenty Days Without War
''Twenty Days Without War'' () is a 1976 Soviet film based on a story by Konstantin Simonov, directed by Aleksey German and starring Yuri Nikulin and Lyudmila Gurchenko. The film describes how the romantic views of war as pictured in the Soviet war film industry were actually far different from the harsh realities of front line warfare. Plot Major Lopatin (played by Yuri Nikulin) is a military journalist during World War II, who goes back to his hometown of Tashkent (Uzbekistan) in Middle Asia at the end of 1942 to spend a 20-day leave following the Battle of Stalingrad and to see the shooting of a film based on the wartime articles he has written. There he is romantically involved with a woman named Nina (played by Lyudmila Gurchenko). Lopatin realizes that the romanticized views of warfare on the home front are vastly different from the realities he had encountered. Aleksei Yuryevich German ( rus, Алексей Юрьевич Герман, p=ɐlʲɪkˈsʲej ˈjʉrʲjɪvʲɪdʑ ˈɡʲermən; 20 July 193821 February 2013) was a Russian film director and screenwriter. Lyudmila Vasilyevna Zaytseva (; born 21 July 1946) is a Soviet and Russian film actress, People's Artist of the RSFSR (1989) and laureate of the State Prize of the USSR (1983). Her movie career began in 1967. During the Russian presidential election of 1996, she was a confidant of Gennady Zyuganov and supported his election campaign by travelling with concert brigades throughout the country. For more than 30 years, she was married to Gennady Voronin, a screenwriter and film director, who died in 2011. Lyudmila Zaytseva has a daughter from this marriage actress Vasilisa Voronina. Liya Mejidovna Akhedzhakova (; born 9 July 1938) is a Soviet and Russian film, stage and voice actress who received the title of People's Artist of Russia in 1994. She received two Nika Awards as the best supporting actress and the 2014 Nika Honorary Prize. Biography Akhedzhakova was born in Dnepropetrovsk (modern-day Dnipro, Ukraine). She grew up in a theatrical family in Maykop. Her step father, Mejid Salehovich Akhedzhakov (1914–2012), was a Circassian nobleman who served as the Principal Director of the National Theatre of the Republic of Adygea. Her mother, Yuliya Alexandrovna Akhedzhakova (1916–1990), was also an actress at the same drama theatre.
