Tutunup is a rural locality of the City of Busselton in the South West region of Western Australia. The City of Busselton and the locality of Tutunup are located on the traditional land of the Wardandi (also spelled Wadandi) people of the Noongar nation. Tutunup was established as Tutunup Siding, located on the Nannup branch railway, as a Group Settlement with the group number 14 in May 1922. The locality was the site of a proposed mineral sands mine in 2002 by Cable Sands and Iluka Resources Iluka Resources is an Australian resources company, specialising in mineral sands exploration, project development, operations and marketing. Ruabon, Western Australia
Ruabon is a locality in Western Australia's South West in the local government area of the City of Busselton. At the 2021 census, it had a population of 82. In 1914 a stopping place called Abba River, named after the nearby river, on the former Nannup branch railway was established in the area of the locality. In 1925 during the Group Settlement Scheme, land near the stopping place was gazetted as a townsite called Abbba River. Group Settlement Scheme
The Group Settlement Scheme was an assisted migration scheme which operated in Western Australia from the early 1920s. It was engineered by Premier James Mitchell and followed on from the Soldier Settlement Scheme immediately after World War I. Targeting civilians and others who were otherwise ineligible for the Soldiers' scheme, its principal purpose was to provide a labour force to open up the large tracts of potential agricultural land to ultimately reduce dependence on food imports from interstate. It was also seen by Australians as boosting the ideals of the White Australia policy by strengthening the Anglo-Australian cultural identity of Australia. High levels of post-war unemployment in Britain saw the UK Government seizing on the scheme as a way to reduce dole-queues. The City of Busselton is a local government area in the South West region of Western Australia, approximately south of Perth, the state capital. The city covers an area of and had a population of 40,640 as at the 2021 Census. It contains two large towns, Busselton and Dunsborough, and a number of smaller towns. Wardandi
The Wadandi, also spelt Wardandi and other variants, are an Aboriginal people of south-western Western Australia, one of fourteen language groups of the Noongar peoples. Name There are at least three theories about the meaning of the tribal ethnonym. One informant suggested it reflected a word for "crow" (''wardan''), a theory that sits poorly with early word lists that state that the Wardandi word for that bird is ''kwa:kum''.
