Turtle Creek Boulevard
Turtle Creek Boulevard is a thoroughfare that runs through the Turtle Creek neighborhood of Oak Lawn, Dallas, Texas (USA), generally alongside the actual Turtle Creek. The street has been broken up by dedication of Reverchon Park and by construction of the interstate, but its continuation through the Design District provides a hint of the culverted creek running beneath the streets. Turtle Creek Boulevard shares a single block along the creek with Cedar Springs Road, a vestige of earlier times when natural urban growth converged the two streets. There is also a Turtle Creek Plaza, a largely private drive on the opposite bank of the creek from the boulevard where fancy homes have stood. Turtle Creek is a neighborhood running along Turtle Creek and adjacent Turtle Creek Boulevard in the Oak Lawn area of Dallas, Texas ( USA). Turtle Creek has also become an adopted nickname for the Oak Lawn neighborhood, though never an official one. The nickname also sometimes applies to a spillover of the Uptown area, which has become the official moniker for the area between downtown Dallas and Oak Lawn beginning in the 1980s. (In actuality, however, Uptown itself is a part of the Oak Lawn district, as is the Turtle Creek neighborhood.) The name Turtle Creek also graces a number of business and real estate properties in the area, many of which have addresses away from Turtle Creek Boulevard. Turtle Creek (Dallas County, Texas)
Turtle Creek is the name of small tributary creek of the Trinity River, with headwaters in northern Dallas, in Dallas County, Texas. Course Turtle Creek generally runs southwest through North Dallas, passing through Highland Park (an incorporated city and enclave surrounded by Dallas), then back into Dallas through the Oak Lawn community and Turtle Creek neighborhood alongside Turtle Creek Boulevard, through Reverchon Park, and ultimately through the West Dallas Design District where it flows into the Trinity River Meanders culverts. The Meanders are the original riverbed of the Trinity River through Dallas. For flood control purposes, the Meanders section was rerouted through underground culverts in the early 20th century. The main riverbed was also redirected through a new channel excavated to the west. Cedar Springs Road
Cedar Springs Road is a road mainly in Uptown Dallas. The road also connects to Dallas Love Field and provides access to its terminal. It also once was a major thoroughfare through central Dallas and the Turtle Creek area in the early 1900s. Dallas Area Rapid Transit bus route 39 traversed much of the length of this road; however, in 2022, bus route 103 replaced it. Route description The road's southern end is at North Field Street near the Victory Park neighborhood just north of Downtown Dallas. It travels northeast for two blocks, turning directly north at Akard Street while also becoming one-way northbound for two blocks past this. At Olive Street, it becomes two-way again, and leaves the downtown area for Uptown Dallas. It then passes under the Katy Trail, over Turtle Creek, and Turtle Creek Boulevard joins it about a block north from there. Turtles are an order of reptiles known as Testudines, characterized by a special shell developed mainly from their ribs.
