Craig Turpie
Craig Turpie of Stirling, Scotland, served as chairman of the World Scout Committee, the main executive body of the World Organization of the Scout Movement from 2017 to 2021. Since then, Craig has served as the Deputy UK Chief Commissioner for Transformation. In 2022, he was awarded the Bronze Wolf Award for his contributions to world scouting. Scouting in the UK Craig Turpie first got involved in Scouting by joining his local Cub Scout Pack, 1st Stirlingshire Scouts, in 1983 and followed the youth programme through, achieving both his Queen's Scout Award and Explorer Belt. He became Assistant Area Commissioner for Venture Scouts in Edinburgh, and later the first Area Scout Network Commissioner for Edinburgh. It was at this point that Turpie first became involved with the work of the organisation's Scottish Headquarters and UK Headquarters in a number of different roles. David Turpie
David Battle Turpie (July 8, 1828 – April 21, 1909) was an American politician who served as a Senator from Indiana from 1887 until 1899; he also served as Chairman of the Senate Democratic Caucus from 1898 to 1899 during the last year of his tenure in the Senate. Turpie was born in Hamilton County, Ohio. He grew up in Ohio and graduated from Kenyon College in 1848. He studied law and moved to Logansport, Indiana, where he set up a law practice. He soon became active in the United States Democratic Party to which he would belong for the rest of his life. Turpie was elected to the state legislature at the age of 24 in 1852. He served one term and then returned to practicing law. In 1854 he became a common pleas judge and in 1856 he became a state circuit court judge. In 1858 he was elected to the state legislature again for one year. He was the Democratic candidate for the U.S. House seat held by Schuyler Colfax in 1862, losing only narrowly. Henry Spence Turpie (9 September 1875 – 18 December 1945) was a Scottish-American professional golfer. He had two top-10 finishes in golf major championship tournaments. Turpie finished T5 in the 1909 Western Open, shooting a course record tying 69 in the final round. Early life Turpie was born on 9 September 1875 a few blocks from the Old Course at St Andrews, Scotland, to shoemaker Henry Turpie and his wife Margaret Turpie (née Allan). Like nearly all the golf professionals of his era, he was also a club maker. In the late 19th century he emigrated to the United States and became a naturalized citizen. One of his first jobs was head professional at Edgewater Country Club near Chicago. In 1898 his brother George, also a professional golfer, would make the Atlantic crossing to join him at Edgewater as an assistant.
