"Turning Point" is a 1976 song by R&B singer Tyrone Davis, written and produced by Leo Graham (songwriter), Leo Graham. It was released on Davis' 1976 album ''Turning Point!''. "Turning Point" spent a week at number one on the R&B singles chart in February of that year, but did not chart at all on the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100; it was the first number one soul single to not cross over to the Hot 100 and any ''Billboard'' pop singles chart since 1955. The single was Davis' last number one single on the R&B chart. ''Turning Point!'' is a Tyrone Davis album released in 1976. This was his final release for Dakar Records. This is the first of two albums by Tyrone Davis in 1976. ''Love and Touch'' was released after his move over to Columbia Records. Background Primarily produced by Leo Graham with the exception of two songs ("Saving My Love for You" and "Turn Back the Hands of Time"), which were handled by Carl Davis and Tom Tom 84. "Turning Point (Tyrone Davis song), Turning Point" was the album's lead single and reached No. 1 on the ''Billboard'' Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Hot Soul Singles chart in February 1976. It was the first number-one soul single to not crossover to the Hot 100 and any ''Billboard'' pop singles chart since 1955. It was Davis's last number-one soul/R&B hit. Dakar Records
Dakar Records (1967-1976) was a record label started by Carl Davis (record producer), Carl Davis in 1967, while employed at Brunswick Records. The label was initially distributed by Atlantic Records subsidiary Cotillion Records, and was based in Chicago. All releases after late 1971 were distributed by Brunswick Records. Notable artists on the imprint included Tyrone Davis, Hamilton Bohannon, and Sidney Joe Qualls. Dakar also released LPs by Boobie Knight and the Universal Lady, Even Stevens, Johnny Sayles, Prophets of Soul and Mighty Doug Haynes. When Brunswick/Dakar went dormant, Davis founded Chi Sound Records. Owned by Brunswick today, the Dakar catalog is today distributed by Koch Entertainment. Tyrone Davis (born Tyrone D. Fettson or Tyrone D. Branch, October 3, 1937 – February 9, 2005) (although many sources have his date of birth as May 4, 1938), was an American blues and soul singer with a long list of hit records over more than 20 years. Davis had three number 1 hits on the ''Billboard'' R&B chart: " Can I Change My Mind" (1968), " Turn Back the Hands of Time" (1970), and " Turning Point" (1975). Mighty Joe Young (musician)
Joseph Young Jr. (September 23, 1927 – March 24, 1999), known as Mighty Joe Young, was an American Chicago blues guitarist. Biography Young was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, moving to Milwaukee in about 1945. He was an amateur boxer in the 1940s, but he later recalled that "It was nothing to write home about... I decided that music was the best thing to do." He began his music career in the early 1950s, singing on the Milwaukee nightclub circuit and taking his stage name after the film of the same name. In 1955, he returned to Louisiana to make his recording debut, for Jiffy Records. David Perry Lindley (March 21, 1944 – March 3, 2023) was an American musician who founded the rock band El Rayo-X and worked with many other performers including Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Ry Cooder, Bonnie Raitt, Warren Zevon, Curtis Mayfield and Dolly Parton. He mastered such a wide variety of instruments that ''Acoustic Guitar'' magazine referred to him not as a multi-instrumentalist but instead as a "maxi-instrumentalist." Big Twist And The Mellow Fellows
Big Twist and the Mellow Fellows was an American blues and rhythm and blues group. The frontman was singer, drummer and harmonica player Lawrence "Big Twist" Nolan ''(né'' Lawrence Millard Nolan; 23 September 1937, Terre Haute, Indiana – 14 March 1990, Broadview, Illinois). He began singing in church at the age of six. In the mid to late 1950s he moved to Colp, Illinois and began singing and played drums in a bar band, the Mellow Fellows, performing everything from R & B, blues and country music.
