Turner Bernard
Turner Bernard (born August 14, 1998) is an American football long snapper for the Memphis Showboats of the United Football League (UFL). He played college football at San Diego State. High school Bernard was a three-year starter at Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale, Arizona. While at Mountain Ridge, he was a two-time all-state long snapper. During this time, he received a five-star rating from Kohl's Kicking and was named the nation's top incoming long snapper. Bernard was also selected as one of two long snappers to play in the 2016 high school Under Armour All-America Game. Bernard turned down offers from Utah and Northwestern before choosing to attend San Diego State. College career Bernard received an athletic scholarship to attend San Diego State where he redshirted the 2016 season due to an ACL injury. The Memphis Showboats are a professional American football team based in Memphis, Tennessee. The Showboats compete in the United Football League (UFL) as a member of the USFL Conference. The team is owned and operated by Dwayne Johnson's Alpha Acquico and Fox Corporation. The Showboats play their home games at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. History The Showboats name and branding is based on the original Memphis Showboats of the original United States Football League. On November 15, 2022, it was announced that the Showboats were joining the United States Football League (USFL) to fill the Tampa Bay Bandits' spot after the team announced their hiatus for the 2023 USFL season. The United States Football League (USFL) was a professional American football league that played for three seasons, 1983 through 1985. The league played a spring/summer schedule in each of its active seasons. The 1986 season was scheduled to be played in the autumn/winter, directly competing against the long-established National Football League (NFL). However, the USFL ceased operations before that season was scheduled to begin. The ideas behind the USFL were conceived in 1965 by New Orleans businessman David Dixon, who saw a market for a professional football league that would play in the summer, when the National Football League and college football were in their off-season. Dixon had been a key player in the construction of the Louisiana Superdome and the expansion of the NFL into New Orleans in 1967. The 2022 USFL draft, also known as the 2022 USFL player selection meeting, was the player selection process to fill the rosters of the eight teams for the 2022 USFL season. The draft was held on February 22–23, 2022, with results released through the USFL's social media channels. Structure The USFL player allocation process was held in multiple phases, separated by American football positions, position groups. The term is also used in reference to a player who is under a contract at present but who is allowed to solicit offers from other teams. Each team is given a position in the drafting order in reverse order relative to its record in the previous year, which means that the team with the worst record is positioned first and the Super Bowl champion is last. For teams that had the same record, their position in the draft order for each round rotates in some way amongst the teams with tied records.
