Turku Science Fiction Society
Turku Science Fiction Society (), or TSFS, is the oldest science fiction society in Finland. It was founded in 1976. The society publishes its own semiprozine, called ''Spin'', also the oldest in Finland. It maintains a club room at the University of Turku with several related societies. Finland
Finland ( fi, Suomi ; sv, Finland ), officially the Republic of Finland (; ), is a Nordic country in Northern Europe. Cosmos Pen
The cosmos (, ) is another name for the Universe. Using the word ''cosmos'' implies viewing the universe as a complex and orderly system or entity. The cosmos, and understandings of the reasons for its existence and significance, are studied in cosmologya broad discipline covering scientific, religious or philosophical aspects of the cosmos and its nature. Religious and philosophical approaches may include the cosmos among spiritual entities or other matters deemed to exist outside the physical universe. Finncon
Finncon is the largest science fiction convention in Finland and, with up to 15,000 participants, one of the largest SF conventions in Europe. Finncon is unique among SF conventions because it has no participation/membership fee, and is funded primarily on various cultural grants as well as income from traders. The event is organised annually in different cities in Finland. From 2003 to 2009 and in 2011 the convention included the anime convention Animecon, which boosted the convention's attendance and public visibility significantly. Since then the conventions have separated, and the future of the Finnish Animecon is currently uncertain beyond the 2011 combined Finncon-Animecon. Finncon alternates between different cities in Finland without a formal rota. Eurocon
Eurocon is an annual science fiction convention held in Europe. The organising committee of each Eurocon is selected by vote of the participants of the previous event. The procedure is coordinated by the European Science Fiction Society. The first Eurocon was held in Trieste, Italy, in 1972. Unlike Worldcons, Eurocon is usually a title attached to an existing convention. The European SF Awards are given in most of the conventions giving recognition to the best works and achievements in science fiction. Atorox Award
The Atorox Award ( Finnish: ''Atorox-palkinto'', Swedish: ''Atoroxpriset'') is the oldest science fiction literature award in Finland. It is given annually to the best science fiction short story. The name "Atorox" comes from the works of Aarne Haapakoski (1904–1961), who was one of the first science fiction writers in Finland. The award is given by the Turku Science Fiction Society but the winner is selected by representatives of the entire Finnish fandom. It has been awarded annually since 1983.
