The television industry in Turkey includes high-tech program production, transmission, and coverage. Turkish Radio and Television Corporation is Turkey's largest and most powerful national television station. As of 2022, there are 498 television channels in Turkey, ranking fourth in Europe in terms of the number of television channels. Turkey is the world's fastest-growing television series exporter and has currently overtaken both Mexico and Brazil as the world's second-highest television series exporter after the United States. Show TV is a Turkish free-to-air national television channel, established in 1991 by Erol Aksoy, Dinç Bilgin, Haldun Simavi and Erol Simavi, owned by the Can Holding. History The channel replaces Cine5's now-defunct frequencies, and it was originally established by the Turkish businessmen Erol Aksoy and Haldun Simavi, and originally launched on March 1, 1991, when it commenced its test transmissions. A year later, the channel moved its headquarters to Istanbul, Turkey, and were at the same time starting its official broadcasts. Show TV extended its range of viewers by adding more channels like Show Max and Show Turk to its group. On 6 June 2013 the channel was reacquired by Ciner Media Group. The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT; Turkish: ) is the national public broadcaster of Turkey, founded in 1964. TRT was for many years the only television and radio broadcaster in Turkey. Before the introduction of commercial radio in 1990, and subsequently commercial television in 1992, it held a monopoly on broadcasting. More recent deregulation of the Turkish television broadcasting market produced analogue terrestrial television. Today, TRT broadcasts around the world, including in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, the United States, and Australia. Around 70% of TRT's funding comes from a license tax on television and radio receivers. Additionally, a 2% TRT tax was added to the electricity bills until January 2022. As these are hypothecated taxes, as opposed to the money allocated to general government funds, the principle is similar to that of the television licence levied in a number of other countries, such as the BBC in the United Kingdom. Küçük Çamlıca TV & Radio Tower (), or simply Çamlıca Tower, () is a telecommunications tower with observation decks and restaurants on Little Çamlıca Hill in Üsküdar district of Istanbul, Turkey. The total height of the tower is , of which is a 49-storey reinforced concrete structure with below ground. The height of the tower's steel antenna is . With a total height of above sea level, it carries the title of the highest structure in Istanbul. The structure was chosen by then prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after the Çamlıca Hill TV & Radio Tower Idea Project, which was opened by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in 2011.
