Turbulent Skies
''Turbulent Skies'' (Dutch:''Vliegende Hollanders'') is a 2020 Dutch television series, directed by Joram Lürsen. The series is about Anthony Fokker and Albert Plesman, two aviation pioneers who stood at the cradle of civil aviation in the Netherlands. The series is set between 1919, the year of the First Air Traffic Exhibition Amsterdam, co-organized by Plesman, and 1939, the year in which Fokker died. Because few aircraft from this period have been preserved, a lot of CGI was used in making the series. The series first aired on AVROTROS on October 18, 2020. Joram Lürsen
Joram Lürsen (born 11 August 1963) is a Dutch film director, film and television director, as well as screenwriter and producer. Lürsen was born in Amstelveen. He graduated from the Netherlands Film and Television Academy in Amsterdam in 1990 with his film ''De Finales'' (English language, English translation: ''The Finals''). He directed the family film ''In Orange'' (2004), which received a Golden Film for 100,000 visitors and international awards at film festivals in Hamburg, Esfahan, Kristiansand, Los Angeles, California, Los Angeles, Poznań, and Rimouski, Quebec, Rimouski. He directed the romantic comedy film ''Alles is Liefde'' (2007), which received a Diamond Film for 1,000,000 visitors. Anthony Fokker
Anton Herman Gerard "Anthony" Fokker (6 April 1890 – 23 December 1939) was a Dutch aviation pioneer, aviation entrepreneur, aircraft designer, and aircraft manufacturer. He produced fighter aircraft in Germany during the First World War such as the Fokker Eindecker fighters, Eindecker monoplanes, the Fokker Triplane, Dr.1 triplane and the Fokker D.VII, D.VII biplane. After the Treaty of Versailles forbade Germany to produce aircraft, Fokker moved his business to the Netherlands. There, Fokker, his company was responsible for a variety of aircraft including the Fokker F.VII, Fokker F.VII/3m trimotor, a successful interwar passenger aircraft. Albert Plesman
Albert Plesman (7 September 1889 – 31 December 1953) was a Dutch pioneer in aviation and the first administrator and later director of the KLM, the oldest airline in the world still operating under its original name. Until his death, he was its CEO for over 35 years and was also on the board of the Dutch airline, which was to become one of the most important airlines in the world under his leadership. He was born as the son of an egg trader from The Hague. In 1915 he joined the mobilized Dutch airforce as an officer, at the time still called the ''"militaire luchtvaartafdeling"'' (military aviation department), in Soesterberg. AVROTROS
AVROTROS () is a Dutch radio and television broadcaster that is part of the Dutch public broadcasting system. It was founded in 2014 as the result of a merger between the Algemene Vereniging Radio Omroep (AVRO) and the TROS, Televisie Radio Omroep Stichting (TROS). The name AVROTROS has been used for jointly produced programmes since 1 January 2014. Since 7 September 2014, all existing AVRO and TROS programmes have also been broadcast under the name AVROTROS. Building Before 2014, the AVRO was housed in the building in Hilversum from 2000, while the TROS operated from the former Christelijk Lyceum, also in Hilversum, from 1970. On 20 June 2012, it was announced that both broadcasters would move into the Wereldomroepgebouw after the merger. The move was completed after a renovation on 1 January 2014. In 2014, AVROTROS started using the Vondelparkpaviljoen in Amsterdam, which had been renovated and renamed "Vondel CS".

Frederik Hendrik, or Frits Fentener van Vlissingen (Amsterdam, 20 July 1882 – Vught, 30 July 1962) was a Dutch businessman and entrepreneur credited with growing SHV into the first Dutch multinational corporation. Ivan Smirnov (aviator)
Ivan Vasilyevich Smirnov, or Iwan Smirnoff (; 30 January 1895 – 28 October 1956), was a Russian World War I flying ace and naturalized Dutch aviator who pioneered the Europe to South East Asia routes. He was born to a poor peasant family, but through courage and good fortune managed to become an officer in the Imperial Russian Air Service. After surviving extremely dangerous infantry combat, he trained as a pilot, and was subsequently credited with 11 aerial victories during World War I. When the October Revolution ended his participation in the war, he deserted and became an itinerant pilot. He served short spells in the Royal Air Force, the Volunteer Army of Anton Denikin, Handley Page and SNETA.
