Hildebrand "Tuppy" Glossop is a recurring fictional character in the Jeeves stories by humorist P. G. Wodehouse. Tuppy is a member of the Drones Club, a friend of Bertie Wooster, and the fiancé of Angela Travers, Bertie's cousin. Hans Tuppy (22 July 1924 – 24 April 2024) was an Austrian biochemist who participated in the sequencing of insulin, and became Austria's first university professor for biochemistry. He was Austrian Minister for Science and Research from 1987 to 1989. Background Hans Tuppy's parents were from the present day Czech Republic, his mother Emma from Prague and his father Karl from Brünn. Karl Tuppy (1 January 1880 – 15 November 1939) was chief prosecutor in the trial against those members of the illegal Austrian Nazi party who had murdered chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss during the abortive 1934 July Putsch. After Austria's ''Anschluss'' Karl Tuppy was detained and eventually moved to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, where he was so savagely beaten upon his arrival that he died the following night. Rosalind Mary "Tuppy" Owens (12 November 1944 – 28 February 2025) was an English human rights and sexual health activist, therapist, consultant, campaigner, writer and adult model. Education Born in Cambridge, Owens gained a degree in zoology from Exeter University, and then worked in ecology in Africa and Trinidad. She settled in London, and worked as a scientific administrator at the Natural Environment Research Council. Tuppy Ngintja Goodwin
Tuppy Ngintja Goodwin (born 1952) is an Aboriginal Australian artist from South Australia. She is a painter, and director of Mimili Maku Arts. Early life Goodwin is a Pitjantjatjara woman from Mimili in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands in the remote north-west of South Australia. She was born in Bumbali Creek (her father's Country) and she came to Mimili as a baby, when it was still a cattle station called Everard Park. A number of her siblings are also artists, including Robin Kankapankatja and Margaret Dodd. Career Goodwin spent much of her life working at the Mimili Anangu School as a pre-school teacher and retired in 2009. Art practice Goodwin is a painter working with Mimili Maku Arts where she is a director and, through her work and dance, is committed to fostering traditional law and culture. Tuppy Diack
Ernest Sinclair "Tuppy" Diack (22 July 1930 – 16 May 2025) was a New Zealand rugby union player. A wing three-quarter, Diack represented Otago and, briefly, Southland at a provincial level. He played one match for the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, namely the second test against the touring 1959 British Lions. Biography The first player to make 100 appearances for Otago, Diack played 101 matches and scored 746 points for the province. He was the leading points scorer in New Zealand first-class rugby in three consecutive seasons, from 1958 to 1960. After retiring from playing in 1964, Diack remained active in rugby as a coach, selector and administrator. He served as coach and president of the Otago University Rugby Club, and was made a life member of the club. Harold Geoffrey Owen Owen-Smith (18 February 1909 – 28 February 1990), known as Tuppy Smith, was a South African cricketer who played Test cricket for South Africa and a rugby player who played for and captained the England rugby union team. He was born in Rondebosch, Cape Town, and died at Rosebank, also in Cape Town. Early life Owen-Smith was educated at Diocesan College in Rondebosch and attended the University of Cape Town. An all-round athlete, he represented his school and university in cricket and rugby amongst other sports. Career Owen-Smith played cricket in 5 Tests in 1929 for South Africa, all during the tour of England, and was named Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1930. He was capped 10 times in rugby union by England from 1934 to 1937. He was captain throughout the 1937 Home Nations Championship, so he captained England three times.
