Tunguska Basin In Siberia
The Tunguska Basin is a sedimentary basin in Siberia. Geography Much of the Siberian Traps Large Igneous Province is inside. The area is about in Krasnoyarsk Territory and Sakha Republic, between the Yenisei and Lena rivers. It contains a huge untapped coal reserve. Its main settlements there are Norilsk, Igarka, and Yeniseisk. The Tunguska rivers cross the basin. On June 30, 1908, near the Stony Tunguska River, the Tunguska Event took place. Geology Boreholes in the Tunguska Basin indicate ubiquitous and abundant sills, having great lateral extension. The Tunguska Basin makes up much of the Siberian Craton and has several sub-basins. Yeniseisk
Yeniseysk ( rus, Енисейск, p=jɪnʲɪˈsʲejsk) is a town in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, located on the Yenisei River. Population: 20,000 (1970). History Yeniseysk was founded in 1619 as a stockaded town—the first town on the Yenisei River. It played an important role in Russian colonization of East Siberia in the 17th–18th centuries. Its location is due to the Siberian River Routes from the Urals, up the Ob, up the Ket River and over a portage to Yeniseysk and from there to the Yenisei basin. Tunguska Plateau
The Tunguska Plateau () is a mountain plateau in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Siberia, Russia. It is a part of the Central Siberian Plateau. The plateau is located in a largely uninhabited area. This area (the village of Noginsk, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Noginsk) was abandoned in 2006. The Tunguska Plateau is named after the historical name of the Evenks. Siberian Craton
Siberia, also known as Siberian Craton, Angaraland (or simply Angara) and Angarida, is an ancient craton in the heart of Siberia. Today forming the Central Siberian Plateau, it formed an independent landmass prior to its fusion into Pangea during the Late Carboniferous-Permian. In geology, a sill is a tabular sheet intrusion that has intruded between older layers of sedimentary rock, beds of volcanic lava or tuff, or along the direction of foliation in metamorphic rock. Tunguska Event
The Tunguska event was a large explosion of between 3 and 50 TNT equivalent, megatons that occurred near the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in Yeniseysk Governorate (now Krasnoyarsk Krai), Russia, on the morning of 30 June 1908. Igarka
Igarka () is a town in Turukhansky District of Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, located north of the Arctic Circle. Igarka is a monotown established around a sawmill which processed timber logged in the basin of the Yenisei River for export. Up to 1956, it was largely inhabited by deportees and political prisoners.
