Tungenes Lighthouse
Tungenes Lighthouse () is a coastal lighthouse located in the municipality of Randaberg in Rogaland county, Norway. The lighthouse is situated at the north end of the Tungenes headland on the tip of Stavanger Peninsula just to the north of the city of Stavanger. The lighthouse is no longer in use, but it is used as a fine arts center and lighthouse/maritime museum. There is also a cafe in one of the buildings. Historically, the lighthouse was the main light marking the entrance to the Byfjorden, the main fjord leading to the important city of Stavanger. History Tungenes was first lit in 1828 at a time when the fishing and herring trade increased the need for a safer entrance to the harbor at Stavanger via the Byfjorden. Tungenes was decommissioned and closed down in 1984 and replaced by an automated beacon located just off shore on the tiny island of Brakjen. Sandnes () is a city and municipality in Rogaland, Norway. It lies immediately south of Stavanger, the 4th largest municipality in Norway, and together the Stavanger/Sandnes area is the third-largest urban area in Norway. The urban city of Sandnes lies in the extreme western part of the vast municipality and it makes up about 5% of the total land area of the municipality. Lighthouses In Norway
The coast of Norway is long and there have been a total of 212 lighthouses along it, but no more than 154 have ever been operational at the same time. The first, Lindesnes Lighthouse, opened in 1655; the newest Lighthouse, Anda Lighthouse, was finished in 1932. The first lighthouses were private operations, but in 1821 the government made the Channel and Harbor Inspector responsible for lighthouses in Norway. A dedicated Lighthouse Administration was set up in 1841. The lighthouses are today mostly automated and since 1974, run by the Norwegian Coastal Administration. Two lightvessels had been operated along the Norwegian coast. "Enigheden" off Ålesund from 1856 was replaced with Lepsøyrev Lighthouse in 1879, and "Ildjernsflu" moored off Nesodden from 1914 until it was scrapped in 1968. Flyhistorisk Museum, Sola
Flyhistorisk Museum, Sola (Sola Aviation Museum) is an aviation museum located at Stavanger Airport, Sola, near Stavanger, Norway. The museum was founded in 1984 and is run by local volunteers. Flyhistorisk Museum, Sola went into cooperation with Jærmuseet in January 2012. Facilities The museum is housed in an old aircraft hangar at the former seaplane base at Stavanger Airport, built by German labour during the German occupation of Norway in World War II. In the hangar, the museum houses the display, as well as a small café (with interior from a former bar for one of the fighter squadrons stationed at the airport), in addition to a workshop, where currently an Arado Ar 96, a Caproni Ca.310 bomber, a Heinkel He 115 armed seaplane are under restoration. The Science Factory
Science Factory () is a museum and science center located at Sandnes, in Rogaland, Norway. Background The Science Factory opened in May 2008. It is a science museum with exhibitions about mathematic, astronomy, chemistry, physics, art, and technology. The history of Sandnes also well as regional history also showcased in the museum. In June 2013 a new exhibition called 100% energy was opened. As a part of the exhibition, the Science Factory has their own Tesla Coil. In the weekends and summer there are shows and educational workshops. The Planetarium is located in the center of the Science Factory. The Science Factory also has a Foucault pendulum (named after Jean-Bernard-Leon Foucault) weighing 60 kg and is 11,17 meters long. The Garborg Centre (Norwegian: ''Nasjonalt Garborgsenter'') is an educational centre dedicated to the husband and wife authors, Arne Garborg and Hulda Garborg. It is situated near Arne Garborg's childhood home in the town of Bryne, Time, Norway, Time municipality, in Rogaland, Norway.
