Tumatai Dauphin
Tumatai Dauphin (born 12 January 1988) is a French Polynesian shot-putter who has represented French Polynesia at the Pacific Games and Pacific Mini Games, and France at the Jeux de la Francophonie. Dauphin has been competing with the shot put since the age of 15. He moved to France in 2006 to pursue his athletics career. After a serious ankle injury ended his Olympic aspirations, he returned to French Polynesia to recover and become a coach. He won gold in shot put at the 2009 Jeux de la Francophonie in Beirut. At the 2011 Pacific Games in Nouméa he won gold in the shot put. He won gold at the 2015 French Indoor Athletics Championships with a record throw of 20.10 meters. At the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby he won gold, and set a Pacific games record of 19.14 meters. At the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia he won silver. Shot Put
The shot put is a track and field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. The shot put competition for men has been a part of the modern Olympics since their revival in 1896, and women's competition began in 1948. History Homer mentions competitions of rock throwing by soldiers during the Siege of Troy but there is no record of any dead weights being thrown in Greek competitions. The first evidence for stone- or weight-throwing events were in the Scottish Highlands, and date back to approximately the first century. 2015 French Indoor Athletics Championships
The 2015 French Indoor Athletics Championships was the 44th edition of the national championship in indoor track and field for France, organised by the French Athletics Federation. It was held on 21–22 February at the Jean-Pellez Stadium in Aubière. A total of 28 events (divided evenly between the sexes) were contested over the two-day competition. Loveleina Wong-Sang (born 14 February 2002) is a French Polynesian shot-putter and discus thrower who has represented French Polynesia at the Pacific Games and Pacific Mini Games. She competed in the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, coming ninth in the shot-put. In 2021 she won bronze in the shot put at the French junior championships. At the 2022 Pacific Mini Games in Saipan she won silver in the discus and bronze in the shot put. Saipan
Saipan ( ch, Sa’ipan, cal, Seipél, formerly in es, Saipán, and in ja, 彩帆島, Saipan-tō) is the largest island of the Northern Mariana Islands, a commonwealth of the United States in the western Pacific Ocean. 2022 Pacific Mini Games
The 2022 Pacific Mini Games was held in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands. It was the eleventh edition of the Pacific Mini Games and the first to be hosted by the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands. This event was originally going to be held in 2021, but was postponed to 2022 due to COVID-19 pandemic. Host selection The Northern Mariana Islands were awarded the rights to host the games on July 4, 2014 during the Pacific Games Councils General Assembly meeting in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The decision was unanimous after the CNMI were the only bidder after the deadline. Venues and infrastructure Sports An initial twelve sports were scheduled for the games but this was reduced to six in 2019, following the impact of Typhoon Yutu. 2019 Pacific Games
The 2019 Pacific Games was the sixteenth edition of the Pacific Games. The Games were held in Apia, Samoa, returning there for the first time since 2007. It was the third time overall that the Pacific Games were held in Samoa. The event was initially awarded to Nukuʻalofa, Tonga, but the Tongan government officially withdrew from hosting it in May 2017, amid concerns the country could face economic difficulties if it proceeded. These Games included an additional discipline for basketball, which is the 3x3 format, as well as the return of archery and badminton which were not on the 2015 Pacific Games program.
