Tullio Moneta
Tullio Moneta (9 May 1937 – 31 March 2022) was an Italian actor and mercenary. He acted in 15 films between 1970 and 1990, starring in the feature film ''The Lion's Share''. He also played a role in the Afrikaans language film '' Aanslag op Kariba'' (which means attack on (the) Kariba (dam)) in 1973, produced by Brigadiers Films. He was, together with Mike Hoare, the military advisor for the film '' The Wild Geese'' (1978). Mike Hoare
Thomas Michael Hoare (17 March 1919 – 2 February 2020), known as Mad Mike Hoare, was a British mercenary soldier who operated during the Simba rebellion, and attempted to conduct a coup d'état in the Seychelles. Early life and military career Hoare was born on Saint Patrick's Day in Calcutta to Irish parents. His father was a river pilot. At the age of eight he was sent to school in England to Margate College and then commenced training in accountancy and, as he was not able to go to Sandhurst, he joined the Territorial Army. Hoare's childhood hero was Sir Francis Drake. Aged 20 he joined the London Irish Rifles at the outbreak of the Second World War, later he then joined the 2nd Reconnaissance Regiment of the Royal Armoured Corps as a 2nd lieutenant and fought in the Arakan Campaign in Burma and at the Battle of Kohima in India. The Wild Geese
''The Wild Geese'' is a 1978 war film directed by Andrew V. McLaglen and starring Richard Burton, Roger Moore, Richard Harris, and Hardy Krüger. The screenplay concerns a group of mercenaries in Africa. It was the result of a long-held ambition of its producer Euan Lloyd to make an all-star adventure film similar to '' The Guns of Navarone'' or '' Where Eagles Dare''. The producer and director would later make '' The Sea Wolves'' starring several cast members from this film. The screenplay by Reginald Rose was based on an unpublished novel titled ''The Thin White Line'' by Daniel Carney. The film was named ''The Wild Geese'' after the Wild Goose flag and shoulder patch used by Michael "Mad Mike" Hoare's Five Commando, ANC, which in turn was inspired by a 17th-century Irish mercenary army (see Flight of the Wild Geese). 1981 Seychelles Coup D'état Attempt
The 1981 Seychelles coup d'état attempt, sometimes referred to as the Seychelles affair or Operation Angela, was a failed South African–orchestrated coup to overthrow the government of Prime Minister France-Albert René in Seychelles and restore the previous president, James Mancham, to power. The South African government encouraged a mercenary force to force the change of government but the poorly organised and underfunded operation was obstructed when a Seychelles customs official discovered weapons in the baggage of one of the arriving mercenaries and raised the alarm. After an extended firefight, the mercenaries hijacked an aircraft and fled to Durban in South Africa. They were charged in the South African courts but received lenient sentences.
