Tudor Caranfil
Tudor Caranfil (14 September 1931 – 23 March 2019) was a Romanian film critic. He was the father of film director Nae Caranfil. Biography He attended V. Alecsandri College in Galati and last year, as well as a bachelor's degree at the Mihai Viteazu High School in Bucharest. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy in 1957 to later publish journalism at Bucharest Information. Beginning in the 1960s, he devoted himself to film criticism. From 1962, he created "The friends of the friends of the night", the first form of the Romanian cinematheque. He had been invited to the Cannes Film Festival, the Berlin Film Festival and was a member of the FIPRESCI jury. He participated in many other international film festivals in Karlovy Vary, Los Angeles, Locarno, Cottbus, Rotterdam, San Francisco, and major Romanian film festivals. Nae Caranfil
Nae Caranfil (; also Nicolae Caranfil) (born 7 September 1960) is a Romanian film director and screenwriter. Career Born in Bucharest, Nae Caranfil is the son of Romanian film historian and critic Tudor Caranfil. He graduated in 1984 from the Caragiale National University of Theatre and Film, Caragiale Academy of Theatrical Arts and Cinematography (UNATC) in Bucharest, where he has also taught as a professor. In the beginning of his career he directed only short films: ''Venice in September'' (1983), ''Thirty Years of Insomnia'' (1984), and ''Backstage'' (1988). Caranfil made his feature film debut with ''E Pericoloso Sporgersi'' (1993) and continued with road movie comedy film, comedy ''Asfalt tango'' starring Charlotte Rampling (1996) and with ''Dolce far niente'' (1998). Ion Cantacuzino
Ioan I. Cantacuzino (; also Ion Cantacuzino; 25 November 1863 – 14 January 1934) was a renowned Romanian physician and bacteriologist, a professor at the School of Medicine and Pharmacy of the University of Bucharest, and a titular member of the Romanian Academy. He established the fields of microbiology and experimental medicine in Romania, and founded the Ioan Cantacuzino Institute. ''City Lights'' is a 1931 American synchronized sound film, sound romance film, romantic comedy drama, comedy-drama film written, produced, directed by, and starring Charlie Chaplin. While the film has no audible dialog, it was released with a synchronized musical score with sound effects. The story follows the misadventures of The Tramp, Chaplin's Tramp as he falls in love with a blind woman (Virginia Cherrill) and develops a turbulent friendship with an alcoholic millionaire (Harry Myers). The history of cinema in Romania dates back to the late 19th century, as early as the history of film itself. With the first set of films screened on May 27, 1896, in the building of L'Indépendance Roumanie newspaper in Bucharest. In the Romanian exhibition, a team of Auguste and Louis Lumière, Lumière brothers' employees screened several films, including the famous ''L'Arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat''.
