Tuckerton Seaport
The Tuckerton Seaport is a working maritime village and museum located in Tuckerton, New Jersey, United States. The site, which opened in May 2000, features 17 historic and recreated buildings connected by a boardwalk, a maritime forest and wetlands nature trail. The seaport, which is a member of the Council of American Maritime Museums, celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2010. Little Egg Harbor Township is a township in Ocean County, New Jersey. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's population was 20,065, reflecting an increase of 4,120 (+25.8%) from the 15,945 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 2,612 (+19.6%) from the 13,333 counted in the 1990 Census. The 2010 population was the highest recorded in any decennial census. History Founding Originally part of Burlington County, Little Egg Harbor took its name from the portion of a bay called Egg Harbor (known today as Little Egg Harbor) by the Dutch sailors because of the eggs found in nearby gull nests. Ebenezer Tucker
Ebenezer Tucker (November 15, 1758 – September 5, 1845) was in the United States House of Representatives from New Jersey where he was elected to both the Nineteenth and the Twentieth United States Congress. He was in Congress from March 4, 1825, to March 3, 1829. Tucker served in the American Revolutionary War under General George Washington at the Battle of Long Island and other engagements. He was a judge of the Court of Common Pleas, justice of Court Of Quarter Sessions and judge of the Orphans Court of Burlington County from 1820 to 1825. He moved to what is now Tuckerton, New Jersey, which was named after him, where he engaged in business and shipbuilding. He was the postmaster of Tuckerton from 1806 to 1825, when he resigned to take up his duties in Congress. After Congress, he was again the postmaster of Tuckerton from 1831 until his death in there in 1845. His grave is marked by a most prominent obelisk. The United States census of 2000, conducted by the Census Bureau, determined the resident population of the United States on April 1, 2000, to be 281,421,906, an increase of 13.2 percent over the 248,709,873 people enumerated during the 1990 census. The United States census of 2010 was the twenty-third United States national census. National Census Day, the reference day used for the census, was April 1, 2010. The census was taken via mail-in citizen self-reporting, with enumerators serving to spot-check randomly selected neighborhoods and communities. As part of a drive to increase the count's accuracy, 635,000 temporary enumerators were hired. The population of the United States was counted as 308,745,538, a 9.7% increase from the 2000 census. It typically has border security staff and facilities to check passports and visas and to inspect luggage to assure that contraband is not imported.
