It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. Its administrative seat and only town is Tuchola, which lies north of Bydgoszcz and north-west of ToruÅ„. The county covers an area of . As of 2019 its total population is 48,329 out of which the population of Tuchola is 13,621 and the rural population is 34,708. The county contains most of the protected area called Tuchola Landscape Park. Cekcyn (Polish pronunciation: ) is a village in Tuchola County, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-central Poland. It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Cekcyn. It lies approximately east of Tuchola and north of Bydgoszcz. Cekcyn is located in the middle of the Tuchola Forest (''Bory Tucholskie'') in historic Pomerania.
