Tuburan Tamse
Tuburan Kontong Tamse (born 1911) was a Filipino athlete, and the first Muslim Filipino Olympian. Biography Tamse came from a small town in the municipality of Siasi, Sulu Province, in the southern part of the Philippines. At age 17, he was sent to participate in the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics in the Swimming event, together with fellow Filipino athletes Teofilo Yldefonso (swimming), Anselmo Gonzaga (athletics) and Simeon Toribio (athletics). Olympics The Ninth Olympiad was held in Amsterdam, Netherlands from May 17 – August 12, 1928. In its 1,107-page Official Report published by the International Olympic Committee, a total of 59 countries participated and the "Philippine Islands" sent two athletes to participate in swimming, namely Teofilo Yldefonso from Ilocos Norte, and Tuburan Tamse. Freestyle Swimming
Freestyle is a category of Swimming (sport), swimming competition, defined by the rules of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), in which competitors are subject to a few limited restrictions on their swimming stroke. Freestyle races are the most common of all swimming competitions, with distances beginning with 50 meters (50 yards) and reaching 1500 meters (1650 yards), also known as the mile. The term 'freestyle stroke' is sometimes used as a synonym for 'front crawl', as front crawl is the fastest surface swimming stroke. It is now the most common stroke used in freestyle competitions. The 1928 Summer Olympics ( nl, Olympische Zomerspelen 1928), officially known as the Games of the IX Olympiad ( nl, Spelen van de IXe Olympiade) and commonly known as Amsterdam 1928, was an international multi-sport event that was celebrated from 28 July to 12 August 1928 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The city of Amsterdam had previously bid for the 1920 and 1924 Olympic Games, but was obliged to give way to war-torn Antwerp in Belgium for the 1920 Games and Pierre de Coubertin's Paris for the 1924 Games. The only other candidate city for the 1928 Olympics was Los Angeles, which would eventually be selected to host the Olympics four years later. Simeon Toribio
Simeon Galvez Toribio (September 3, 1905 – June 5, 1969) was a Filipino high jumper. He competed at the 1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympics and won a bronze medal in 1932. In 1928, he cleared the same height as the silver and bronze medalists Benjamin Hedges and Claude Ménard, but lost the jump-off and placed fourth.
