Tsuwano Station
is a passenger railway station located in the town of Tsuwano, Kanoashi District, Shimane Prefecture, Japan. It is operated by the West Japan Railway Company (JR West). Lines Tsuwano Station is served by the JR West Yamaguchi Line, and is located 62.0 kilometers from the terminus of the line at . Limited Express ''Super Oki'' stops here, and it is the terminal of sightseeing train ''SL Yamaguchi'' (steam train). Station layout The station consists of one island platform connected to the station building by a footbridge. Platform 1 is a track adjacent to the station building, but it does not have boarding and alighting facilities and is used for train parking. Railway Turntable
A railway turntable or wheelhouse is a device for turning railway rolling stock, usually locomotives, to face a different direction. It is especially used in areas where economic considerations or a lack of sufficient space have served to weigh against the construction of a Wye (rail), turnaround wye. Railways needed a way to turn steam locomotives around for return journeys, as their controls were often not configured for extended periods of running in reverse; also many locomotives had a lower top speed in reverse. Most diesel locomotives, however, can be operated in either direction, and are considered to have "front ends" and "rear ends" (often determined by reference to the location of the crew cab). Tsuwano Castle
was a Japanese castle located in what is now the city of Tsuwano, Shimane Prefecture, in the San'in region of far western Japan. Its ruins have been protected by the central government as a National Historic Site since 1942. In its early history, it was called or . During the Edo Period, it was the center of Tsuwano Domain ruled by the Kamei clan; however, the administrative offices and ''daimyō'' residence were located at the base of the mountain to avoid the steep mountain paths. The is a type of 2-8-2 steam locomotive operated by the Japanese Government Railways (JGR) and later by the Japanese National Railways (JNR). Designed by JGR's chief mechanical engineer Hideo Shima, they were built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries Rolling Stock Company, Kisha Seizo, Hitachi, Nippon Sharyo, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and JGR's factories from 1936 to 1945. Although surpassed in speed, power, and size by other locomotives, it is recognised as the most mass-manufactured locomotive in Japanese rail history.
