The first titles launched were “A Perfeição Não Existe", by Tostão; "História da Imprensa Paulista", by Oscar Pilagallo; and "Diário da Corte", by Paulo Francis. The imprint's name was inspired by the three stars accompanying the logo of Folha de S.Paulo, the flagship newspaper published by the company that owns the imprint. Grupo Folha is the second largest Brazilian media conglomerate, after Grupo Globo. It was founded by Octávio Frias (1912–2007) and led by his son Luiz Frias since 1992. The group publishes , the largest circulation paper in the country, which since 1986 keeps the leadership among quality general-interest newspapers in Brazil. In the last decade, the group nearly tripled its revenue, getting to R$2.7 billion in 2010. EBITDA reached R$600 million in 2011. Circulation In February 2012, Folha widened its lead among prestige newspapers in Brazil, with an average of 297.5 thousand monthly copies in circulation, 12% ahead of O Globo and 20.3% ahead of O Estado de S. Paulo, competitors in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo states. Besides Folha, the group publishes Agora São Paulo newspaper and has 50% shares at Valor Econômico, in partnership with Organizações Globo. ''CartaCapital'' is a weekly Brazilian newsmagazine published in Santana de Parnaíba, São Paulo and João Pessoa, Paraíba and distributed throughout the country by Editora Basset. The main focuses of the magazine are politics, economy, social issues and culture. History ''CartaCapital'' was created as a monthly magazine in 1994 by Mino Carta, an Italo-Brazilian journalist. In 1968, Carta founded Brazil's leading newsmagazine '' Veja'' alongside Victor Civita. Eight years later, he founded '' IstoÉ'', another popular newsmagazine. Unsatisfied with the result of the magazines he helped to create, Carta founded ''CartaCapital'' as an alternative to these. Paulo Francis
Paulo Francis (Rio de Janeiro, September 2, 1930 – New York City, February 4, 1997) was a Brazilian journalist, political pundit, novelist and critic. Francis became prominent in modern Brazilian journalism through his controversial critiques and essays with a trademark writing style, which mixed erudition and vulgarity. Like many other Brazilian intellectuals of his time, Francis was exposed to Americanization during his teens. In his early career, Francis tried to blend Brazilian left-wing nationalist ideas in culture and politics with the ideal of modernity embodied by the United States. He acted mostly as an advocate of modernism in cultural matters, later becoming embroiled in Brazil's 1960s political struggles as a Trotskyist sympathizer and a left-wing nationalist, while at the same time keeping a distance from both Stalinism and Latin American populism.
