"Truth Is" is a song recorded by American singer Fantasia for her debut studio album '' Free Yourself'' (2004). It was written by Carsten Schack and Alex Cantrell, and produced by Soulshock & Karlin. A piano-driven R&B track, it incorporates a sample from "Highways of My Life" by the Isley Brothers; the group's members thus received writing credits for "Truth Is". The song was released as the lead single from ''Free Yourself'' on November 15, 2004, by J Records and 19 Recordings. "Truth Is" peaked at number 21 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and at number two on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. In 2006, it won an ASCAP R&B/Hip-Hop Award, along with " Free Yourself". Fantasia Monique Barrino-Taylor (born June 30, 1984), known professionally by her mononym Fantasia, is an American singer and actress. She rose to prominence in 2004 for her performance of the ''Porgy and Bess'' standard " Summertime" during the third season of ''American Idol'', and eventually became that season's winner. Following her victory, Barrino became the second artist after Lauryn Hill to have a debut single enter the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 at number one, when her song " I Believe" launched atop the chart. It went on to become the best-selling single in the United States that year. Barrino's debut album '' Free Yourself'' (2004), was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Rhythmic contemporary, also known as Rhythmic Top 20, Rhythmic Top 30, Rhythmic Top 40, Rhythmic CHR or rhythmic crossover, is a primarily American music-radio format that includes a mix of EDM, upbeat rhythmic pop, hip-hop and upbeat R&B hits. The Dutch Single Top 100 or Single Top 100 is a Dutch chart, based on official physical single sales, legal downloads and since July 2013 streaming and composed by Dutch Charts. It is one of the three official charts, the other two being the Dutch Top 40 and the Mega Top 30. The difference is that these charts also include airplay data.
