Tru Thoughts is a British independent record label founded in Brighton in 1999 by Robert Luis and Paul Jonas. The label has put out over 200 LPs of electronic, funk, soul, hip hop, jazz, tropical, grime and other music. History In September 1999, after running club nights Phonic: hoop and Shake Yer Wig, Paul Jonas and Robert Luis, two music-obsessed friends, launched their own label. From Luis' home, Tru Thoughts began with its first 12" EP, Steady's ''Alarming Frequency''. Bonobo (musician), Bonobo's debut album ''Animal Magic (Bonobo album), Animal Magic'' followed in 2000 and Will Holland, Quantic's debut ''The 5th Exotic'' in 2001. In 2009, Tru Thoughts marked its 10th anniversary with a 3-disc compilation. In 2017, Tru Thoughts marked its 18th birthday with an all-day event at London's Roundhouse (venue), Roundhouse, with appearances from Quantic, Alice Russell, the Hot 8 Brass Band, Anchorsong and Rodney P. Brighton
Brighton ( ) is a seaside resort in the city status in the United Kingdom, city of Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, England, south of London. Archaeological evidence of settlement in the area dates back to the Bronze Age Britain, Bronze Age, Roman conquest of Britain, Roman and Anglo-Saxons, Anglo-Saxon periods. The ancient settlement of "Brighthelmstone" was documented in the ''Domesday Book'' (1086). The town's importance grew in the Middle Ages as the Old Town developed, but it languished in the early modern period, affected by foreign attacks, storms, a suffering economy and a declining population. Brighton began to attract more visitors following improved road transport to London and becoming a boarding point for boats travelling to France.
