Trouville-sur-Mer
Trouville-sur-Mer (, literally ''Trouville on Sea''), commonly referred to as Trouville, is a city of 4,603 inhabitants in the Calvados department in the Normandy region in northwestern France. Trouville-sur-Mer borders Deauville across the River Touques. This fishing-village on the English Channel became a popular tourist attraction (beach-resort and holiday-destination) in Normandy from the 19th century. Its long sandy beach earned then the nickname of "queen of the beaches" ("Reine des plages") or "most beautiful beach in the world". Touques (river)
The Touques () is a small coastal river in Pays d'Auge in Normandy, France. The Touques is officially navigable up to the Pont des Belges, from its estuary. Its source is in the Perche hills, south of Gacé. The river runs northwards, and flows into the English Channel between the communes of Deauville and Trouville-sur-Mer in North-Western Calvados. Two ports, the Port of Trouville-sur-Mer and Port of Deauville are situated on the river mouth opposite each other. The Touques was diverted and straightened at the end of the 19th century and the neighbouring swamps dried and built on. Trouville-Deauville station was built on the river's former bed. Trouville's harbour dock wall was rebuilt at the end of the 1990s due to erosion of the dock's stone wall. Deauville () is a communes of France, commune in the Calvados (department), Calvados department, Normandy (administrative region), Normandy, northwestern France. Eugène Boudin
Eugène Louis Boudin (; 12 July 1824 – 8 August 1898) was one of the first French landscape painters to paint outdoors. Boudin was a marine painter, and expert in the rendering of all that goes upon the sea and along its shores. His pastels, summary and economic, garnered the splendid eulogy of Baudelaire; and Corot called him the "King of the skies". Biography Born at Honfleur, Boudin was the son of a harbor pilot, and at age 10 the young boy worked on a steamboat that ran between Le Havre and Honfleur. In 1835 the family moved to Le Havre, where Boudin's father opened a store for stationery and picture frames. Here the young Eugene worked, later opening his own small shop. Boudin's father had thus abandoned seafaring, and his son gave it up too, having no real vocation for it, though he preserved to his last days much of a sailor's character: frankness, accessibility, and open-heartedness. Raymond Savignac
Raymond Savignac (; 6 November 1907, Paris, – 29 October 2002, Trouville-sur-Mer), often just abbreviated to "Savignac", was a French graphic artist famous for his commercial posters. His work is distinguished by a humorous simplicity. Self-taught, he started designing posters under the direction of Cassandre, but met his greatest success with the poster for Yoplait yogurt, which featured the udders of a cow directly supplying the "milk yogurt" with milk. Another famous poster was called "La Guerre des boutons" (War of Buttons). In 1949, Savignac's works were exhibited with those of his contemporary poster artist Bernard Villemot at the Gallery of Beaux Arts in Paris. Vrchlabí (; , ) is a town in Trutnov District in the Hradec Králové Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 12,000 inhabitants. It lies at the foot of the Giant Mountains on the river Elbe. Barnstaple
Barnstaple ( or ) is a river-port town and civil parish in the North Devon district of Devon, England. The town lies at the River Taw's lowest crossing point before the Bristol Channel. From the 14th century, it was licensed to export wool from which it earned great wealth. Later it imported Irish wool, but its harbour silted up and other trades developed such as shipbuilding, foundries and sawmills. A Victorian market building survives, with a high glass and timber roof on iron columns.
