Trondheimsleia
The Trondheimsleia is a strait in Møre og Romsdal and Trøndelag counties in Norway. The long strait runs between the islands of Smøla and Hitra and the mainland municipalities of Aure, Heim, and Orkland. The strait has several fjords which branch off it including the Ramsøyfjorden, Hemnfjorden, and Trondheimsfjorden. The islands of Leksa are located in the Trondheimsleia in Orkland Municipality. Hemnfjorden
Hemnfjorden is a fjord in Trøndelag county in Norway. The long fjord forms the boundary between Heim Municipality, Hitra Municipality, and Orkland Municipality. The fjord begins at the village of Kyrksæterøra at the mouths of the rivers Søo and Haugaelva. The fjord flows northwards until it joins the Trondheimsleia. The Åstfjorden and Snillfjorden are smaller fjords which branch off the main Hemnfjorden to the east into Orkland Municipality. The deepest point in the fjord reaches below sea level. The village of Heim lies along the western shore of the fjord, and the municipal center of Hemne, Kyrksæterøra lies at the southern end of the fjord, and the village of Ytre Snillfjord lies on the southeast side of the fjord. Orkland is a municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Orkdalen. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Orkanger. Hitra (island)
Hitra is an island in Hitra Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The island is the 7th largest island in Norway (excluding Svalbard) and the largest island south of the Lofoten archipelago. The island lies between the Trondheimsleia strait and the Frøyfjorden, just southwest of the entrance to the Trondheimsfjorden. Hitra Tunnel
The Hitra Tunnel () is an undersea tunnel in Hitra Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The tunnel connects the island of Hitra to the mainland. The tunnel is long and reaches a depth of below sea level, making it the deepest tunnel in the world when it was built, overtaking Byfjord Tunnel. The tunnel begins on the island of Jøsnøya, just south of the village of Sandstad. The tunnel then runs under the Trondheimsleia to the island of Hemnskjela. Leksa
Leksa refers to two islands in the Trondheimsleia strait in Orkland Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. Leksa is made up of the smaller north island, Nordleksa, and the larger south island, Sørleksa. The two islands have been connected by a small causeway since 1986. There are about 30 inhabitants between the two islands with about four farms still in use. Leksa has a store and a post office, and is used as a recreational resort. There is a car ferry from Vernes on the mainland to Nordleksa and ten another one to Garten from Nordleksa. The Sørleksa port is for express catamaran boat between the cities of Trondheim and Kristiansund. On Sørleksa there is a small fishing harbour with a breakwater whose construction work was finished in 1978. During World War II, there were about 300 German soldiers stationed at Leksa, and there were also 60-70 Polish and Russian prisoners of war who were imprisoned here for about 2 years.
