Trolltinder Mountain
Trolltinder Mountain is a mountain summit located immediately west of the Continental Divide, in the Waputik Range of the Canadian Rockies in British Columbia, Canada. It is situated in Yoho National Park, with its nearest higher peak being Mount Balfour, to the northeast, and Fairy Lake directly below its southern slope. History The mountain was named by Jean Habel in 1897 for its resemblance to a mountain in Norway. The translation is ''Witch's Peak''. Jean Habel was a German geographer who explored the Yoho Valley in 1896. The first ascent of the mountain was made in 1901 by James Outram and Edward Whymper, with guides Christian Kaufmann, Christian Klucker, and Joseph Pollinger. Outram described the climb in his book, ''"In the Heart of the Canadian Rockies"'' as follows: ''"On the 21st we had a little climb to a ruined tower on a serrated spur of Mt. Waputik Range
The Waputik Range lies west of the upper Bow Valley, east of Bath Creek, and south of Balfour Creek in the Canadian Rockies. "Waputik" means "white goat" in Stoney language, Stoney. The range was named in 1884 by George Mercer Dawson of the Geological Survey of Canada. The President Range lies within the Waputik Range. The Waputik Range should not be confused with the much larger Waputik Mountains which encompasses this range and other peaks along the Continental Divide of the Americas, Continental Divide in Yoho National Park. Two-thousanders are mountains that have a height of at least 2,000 height above sea level, metres above sea level, but less than 3,000 metres. The term is used in Alpine circles, especially in Europe (e.g. German: ''Zweitausender''). Troll Wall
The or is part of the mountain massif Trolltindene (Troll Peaks) in the Romsdalen valley in Rauma Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located to the south of the towns of Åndalsnes and Molde inside the Reinheimen National Park. The Troll Wall is the tallest vertical rock face in Europe, about from its base to the summit of its highest point. At its steepest, the summit ridge overhangs the base of the wall by nearly . The Rauma River, the Rauma railway and the European Route E136 run just to the east of the wall. The rock is gneiss, formed into a broken rock wall of huge corners, concave roofs, and crack systems, topped with a series of spires and pinnacles on the summit rim. The rock is generally loose, and rockfall is the norm on this north-facing big wall. The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems. It was first published by German-Russian climatologist Wladimir Köppen (1846–1940) in 1884, with several later modifications by Köppen, notably in 1918 and 1936. Laramide Orogeny
The Laramide orogeny was a time period of mountain building in western North America, which started in the Late Cretaceous, 70 to 80 million years ago, and ended 35 to 55 million years ago. The exact duration and ages of beginning and end of the orogeny are in dispute. The Laramide orogeny occurred in a series of pulses, with quiescent phases intervening.
