Trojans F.C.
Trojans Youth and Community Group is an intermediate football club based in Derry, Northern Ireland, currently playing in the Northern Ireland Intermediate League. The club was founded in 1938 by Edmund Carton and is based in the Creggan area of Derry. The club also has a youth development set-up participating in the NIBFA National League and Derry and District Youth Football Association. Team Senior The Senior Trojans team, also known as the 'Trojans Intermediate Team', participates in the Northern Ireland Intermediate League. They play from Trojans' base at Oakland Park in the Creggan Estate. Youth Trojans YCG has a number of youth teams who participate in the under-age leagues of the NIBFA National Youth League and Derry and District Youth Football Association. Derry, officially Londonderry (), is the second-largest city in Northern Ireland and the fifth-largest city on the island of Ireland. Creggan, Derry
Creggan ( ga, An Creagán; meaning ''stony place'') is a large housing estate in Derry, Northern Ireland, on a hill not far from the river Foyle. The estate is very close to the border with County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland. History Pre-Troubles Creggan was originally built specifically to provide housing for the growing population of Derry. There was a Nationalist majority in the city, but the Unionist minority of the then Londonderry Corporation wanted to ensure they kept control of the city. When the Bogside became overcrowded in the 1940s to 1960s, the Corporation agreed to put Nationalist and mainly Catholic families in housing, in the same ward as the Bogside. This ensured continued Unionist control of the Londonderry Corporation. This process is known as gerrymandering. Foyle Cup
The Foyle Cup is a youth soccer tournament held every year in Derry City, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Along with the Milk Cup, which takes place around the same time, The Foyle Cup is one of Ireland and indeed Europe's premier youth tournaments. History The competition began in 1992 with only eight teams competing. It is seen as one of the most important and pivotal tournaments in Northern Ireland, as it presents an opportunity for the youth of Northern Ireland to show their abilities. Academy teams of such European clubs as Werder Bremen, IFK Göteborg and Ferencváros have participated in the tournament, along with teams from the U.S. and Canada in recent times. Kevin Deery
Kevin Deery (born 6 December 1984) is an Irish football coach, manager and former footballer who is the manager of NIFL Championship side Institute. He played his entire professional career with his hometown club Derry City, and served as club captain between 2010-2014 having been appointed to the role by former Candystripes manager Stephen Kenny. As captain, he helped guide Derry to promotion back to the top flight of Irish football having been demoted to the League of Ireland First Division due to financial difficulties. He retired in 2014 after a series of injury setbacks and a fall out with then manager Roddy Collins. After retirement he began his coaching career, taking on the role of co-manager alongside Paul 'Oxo' McLaughlin at intermediate club Trojans in 2014. James McClean
James Joseph McClean ( ; born 22 April 1989) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a winger for EFL Championship club Wigan Athletic and the Republic of Ireland national team. McClean played with Trojans, Institute, his hometown club Derry City, and Sunderland before moving to Wigan Athletic in August 2013. Darren Kelly
Darren Kelly (born 30 June 1979) is a Northern Irish professional football manager and former player who played as a centre-back. He is the sporting director of club Newport County. Kelly began his career at hometown club Derry City before moving to English Third Division club Carlisle United, following financial difficulties at Derry. He spent two seasons with the club, which included an appearance in the 2003 Football League Trophy Final, after which he was released and returned to Northern Ireland with Portadown. He captained the team and eventually left after his contract expired in 2006, when he rejoined Derry for a second spell. Gerard Doherty (born 24 August 1981) is a Northern Irish footballer who plays as a goalkeeper. Club career Born in Derry, Northern Ireland, Doherty began his career with his hometown club, Derry City, making his debut as a 16-year-old in a league cup win against Irish side Sligo Rovers. His potential alerted English outfit Derby County and they signed him in February 1999 for a fee of £30,000. After failing to break into the Derby first-team and falling out with goalkeeping coach Eric Steele, Doherty left the club in the summer of 2001 and was offered a trial with La Liga side Valencia. The trial was ultimately unsuccessful, and Doherty returned to the UK in November 2001 when he was signed by the Welsh Premier League team, The New Saints.
