Amar Chowdhury
Amar Choudhury (1897 – 30 August 1948) was an Indian film actor, director, editor and writer. He wrote and directed ''Jamai Shashthi'' in 1931 produced by Madan Theatre Limited, credited as the first Bengali talkie. He acted in this film too as in all of the films written and directed by him. It was released on 11 April 1931 at Crown Cinema Hall in Calcutta in the same year as ''Alam Ara ''Alam Ara'' () is a 1931 Indian Hindustani-language historical fantasy film directed and produced by Ardeshir Irani. It revolves on a king and his two wives, Navbahaar and Dilbahaar, who are childless; soon, a '' fakir'' (Muhammad Wazir Khan) ...'', the first Indian talkie was released. Jamai Sasthi
Jamai Sasthi ( bn, জামাই ষষ্ঠী) is a traditional cultural ritual of Bengali people. This ritual is performed on the sixth tithi of the Shukla paksha Paksha (also known as ''pakṣa''; sa, पक्ष, Nepal Bhasa: ''thwa'' and ''gа̄''; ) refers to a fortnight or a lunar phase in a month of the Hindu lunar calendar. Literally meaning "side", a paksha is the period either side of the Fu ... of the Joishtho month. On this day married women and their sons-in-law are invited and entertained by women's parents. In this way, in an attempt to keep the son-in-law happy, the mundane tradition of Shashthi Puja has become the festival of Bengali's Joishtho month.
