Triplex (typeface)
The Triplex type font style is a typeface designed by Zuzana Licko and John Downer in 1985 and 1989. It is distributed by Emigre. It is used by Avex & Prezi for its logo. It was also used as the typeface for Disney Channel from 1997-2002. It has both Sans-serif and Serif variation. John Downer first designed sans-serif Triplex Italic in 1985, then Zuzana Licko designed the other fonts in the family, including Triplex Sans and Triplex Serif.Because the italic font was designed prior to the normal fonts. D-type Triplex (New York City Subway Car)
The D-Type, commonly known as the Triplex, was a New York City Subway car class built by Pressed Steel Car Company. They were operated by the Brooklyn–Manhattan Transit Corporation (BMT) and its successors, which included the New York City Board of Transportation and the New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA). The fleet consisted of 121 cars, each arranged as three-section articulated units. Four units were built as a prototype in 1925, and the production units were built during 1927 and 1928. The D-types were the first articulated rapid transit rolling stock used in the United States, and were followed by several more articulated trains until the BMT sold all of its transit operations to the City on June 1, 1940. First placed into service in 1925, they operated primarily on the BMT's Southern Division, although they would also appear on many other parts of the subway system. White Triplex
The White Triplex (also known as the "Triplex Special" and the "Spirit of Elkdom") was an American land speed record car built for J. H. White and driven by Ray Keech. It was powered by three 27-litre Liberty aero engines, for a total of 36 cylinders, 81 litres of displacement and a claimed 1500 bhp. White, a wealthy American from Philadelphia (no connection to the White Motor Company), wanted to take the land speed record from the British, then shared in a duel between Henry Segrave and Malcolm Campbell. No suitable engines were available to give a sufficient advantage over the British Napier Lion, so the simplest possible chassis was constructed and three war-surplus Liberty aero engines were squeezed into it. Triplex (locomotive)
A Triplex locomotive is a steam locomotive that divides the driving force on its wheels by using three pairs of cylinders rigidly mounted to a single locomotive frame. Inevitably any such locomotive will be articulated. All the examples that have been produced have been of the Mallet type but with one extra set of driving wheels under the tender. Triplex classes Baldwin Locomotive Works built three Triplex locomotives for the Erie Railroad between 1914 and 1916. The first was named ''Matt H. Shay'', after a beloved employee of that road. These Triplexes were given the classification of "P1" and they could reportedly pull 650 freight cars. The Triplexes were primarily used as pushers on grades requiring helper locomotives. Slow moving, the Triplexes were not considered highly successful, and no more were built for Erie. The Erie Railroad scrapped their Triplexes from 1929, 1931, and 1933.. Triple-stranded DNA (also known as H-DNA or Triplex-DNA) is a DNA structure in which three oligonucleotides wind around each other and form a triple helix. In triple-stranded DNA, the third strand binds to a B-form DNA (via Watson–Crick base-pairing) double helix by forming Hoogsteen base pairs or reversed Hoogsteen hydrogen bonds. Triplex Safety Glass was a British brand of toughened glass and laminated glass. The marque is often seen on vehicle and aircraft windscreens. History The Triplex Safety Glass Company Ltd was founded in 1912 by Kent-born Reginald Delpech (30 March 1881 - 29 May 1935). The company was established in 1912 to build laminated windscreens in Britain, under French patents. On 9 September 1929 Triplex formed a joint venture company with Pilkington in St Helens. The company is now part of Pilkington Automotive. In the 1960s Triplex bought its main competitor British Indestructo Glass, giving it a monopoly in British laminated glass production. In the 1980s, around 1,000 people worked at the Triplex site in St Helens and about 700 at the site in Kings Norton. Pilkington retired the Triplex brand in August 1993. Triplex (espionage)
Triplex or XXX was the code name of a British espionage operation in World War II which involved secretly copying the contents of diplomatic pouches of neutral countries. Due to travel security restrictions to and from Britain during some periods of the war, the government was able to forbid the use of the embassies' own couriers to transport pouches or was able to separate the courier from the pouch to "sensor" the passenger. This provided opportunities to access the pouch and copy the contents for later analysis.
