Triplagnostus
''Ptychagnostus'' is a genus of trilobites in the order Agnostida that lived during the Cambrian period. Their remains are rarely found in empty tubes of the polychaete worm ''Selkirkia''. The genus probably ranged throughout the water column. It has two glabellar lobes, and three pygidial lobes. Type species ''Agnostus punctuosus'' Angelin, 1851 from the ''Ptychagnostus punctuosus'' zone of the Alum Shale (Drumian), Sweden (by original designation). Official ruling on the conservation of accepted usage of ''A. punctuosus'' as the type species was given by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature, 1993. Otto Jaekel
Otto Max Johannes Jaekel (21 February 1863 – 6 March 1929) was a German paleontologist and geologist. Biography Jaekel was born in Nowa Sól, Neusalz (Nowa Sól), Prussian Silesia, the son of a builder and the youngest of seven children. He studied at the ''Ritterakademie'' in Legnica, Liegnitz (Legnica). After graduating in 1883, he came to study geology and paleontology under Ferdinand von Roemer, Ferdinand Roemer in Wrocław, Breslau (Wrocław) until 1885. Karl von Zittel awarded a PhD to Jaekel in Munich in 1886. Between 1887 and 1889, Jaekel was an assistant of E.W. Benecke at the Geologisch-Paläontologisches Institut in Straßburg, where he received his Habilitation. He worked at the Humboldt University of Berlin, Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin and at the Natural History Museum, Berlin, Geologisch-Paläontologisches Museum (a combined post) from 1891. Trilobite
Trilobites (; meaning "three-lobed entities") are extinction, extinct marine arthropods that form the class (biology), class Trilobita. One of the earliest groups of arthropods to appear in the fossil record, trilobites were among the most successful of all early animals, existing in oceans for almost 270million years, with over 22,000 species having been described. Because trilobites had wide diversity and an easily fossilized mineralised exoskeleton made of calcite, they left an extensive fossil record. The study of their fossils has facilitated important contributions to biostratigraphy, paleontology, evolution, evolutionary biology, and plate tectonics. Agnostida
Agnostida are an order of extinct arthropods which have classically been seen as a group of highly modified trilobites, though some recent research has doubted this placement. Regardless, they appear to be close relatives as part of the Artiopoda. They are present in the Lower Cambrian fossil record along with trilobites from the Redlichiida, Corynexochida, and Ptychopariida orders, and were highly diverse throughout the Cambrian. Agnostidan diversity severely declined during the Cambrian-Ordovician transition, and the last agnostidans went extinct in the Late Ordovician. Selkirkia
''Selkirkia'' is a genus of predatory, tubicolous priapulid worms known from the Middle Cambrian Burgess Shale, Ogygopsis Shale, Puncoviscana Formation and the Early Ordovician Fezouata Formation. 142 specimens of ''Selkirkia'' are known from the Greater Phyllopod bed, where they comprise 0.27% of the community. In the Burgess Shale, 20% of the tapering, organic-walled tubes are preserved with the worm inside them, whereas the other 80% are empty (or sometimes occupied by one or more small agnostid trilobites). Whilst alive, the tubes were probably vertical, whereas trilobite-occupied tubes are horizontal. Burgess Shale Fossils
The fossils of the Burgess Shale, like the Burgess Shale itself, are fossils that formed around 505 million years ago in the mid-Cambrian, Cambrian period. They were discovered in Canada in 1886, and Charles Doolittle Walcott collected over 65,000 specimens in a series of field trips up to the alpine site from 1909 to 1924.
