The group formed in early 2004 while students at UCSB by vocalist Justin Fox (musician), Justin Fox, guitarist Greg Doscher, guitarist Adam Coons, drummer Russ Cummings, and bassist Dave Heer. In a '' Vox'' interview, lead guitarist Rodney Browning Cravens claimed the band took the name from of a ''Wired'' magazine article. The band is best known for their 1996 hit song "Counting Blue Cars" The band was formerly known as Life Talking until about 1990 when they decided that the name "sounded too 80s". "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" is a song written by Bennie Benjamin, Horace Ott and Sol Marcus for the American singer-songwriter and pianist Nina Simone, who recorded the first version in 1964.
