Trimble Community Forest
The Trimble Community Forest or Trimble Township Community Forest is a forest preserve owned by the Appalachia Ohio Alliance, a land trust located in southeast Ohio. Formerly called Taylor Ridge, it was purchased in 2006 from the Sunday Creek Coal Company, and was formerly part of the Sunday Creek State Wildlife Area. The land has a long history of coal, oil, natural gas, and timber production. The AOA negotiated with the Trimble Township Trustees on its use before purchase. It is located in Athens County, Ohio, south of Ohio State Route 78, between Glouster, Ohio and Murray City, Ohio Murray City is a village in Hocking County, Ohio, United States. Athens County is a county in southeastern Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was 62,431. Its county seat is Athens. The county was formed in 1805 from Washington County. Trimble Township is one of the fourteen townships of Athens County, Ohio, United States. The 2010 census found 4,480 people in the township, 1,818 of whom lived in the unincorporated portions of the township. State Route 78 (SR 78) is a state highway that runs for 105 miles (169 km) from Nelsonville to Clarington in the U.S. state of Ohio. Glouster, Ohio
Glouster is a village in Trimble Township, Athens County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,791 at the 2010 census. It is close to Burr Oak State Park. History Formerly called Sedalia, the present name of Glouster, after Gloucester, England, was adopted in 1886. A post office called Glouster has been in operation since 1887. Economy A deep mine is located north of town. The nearby mining pit was recently closed, with active operations moved to the east of Burr Oak State Park, but the loading station is still at the old site because of the location of the railroad. The Trimble high school and middle school provide some local employment, as does Frog Ranch Foods, anHocking-Athens-Perry Community Action Programs(HAPCAP). Murray City is a village in Hocking County, Ohio, United States. The population was 449 at the 2010 census. History Murray City was platted in 1873 and incorporated in 1891. It was named for John Murray Brown, the original owner of the town site. John Murray Brown was an early settler who bought up the land to lay out the town. He built a hotel in 1875 for the local workers but sold his interests in the community a few years later to a large coal company. Murray City was once one of the largest coal towns in the country with over 2,000 residents.
