Tri-Ess
Tri-Ess (Society for the Second Self) is an international educational, social, and support group for heterosexual cross-dressers, their partners, and their families. History Tri-Ess was founded in 1976 by the merging of two existing groups for crossdressers, ''Mamselle'', a group formed by Carol Beecroft, and another group called Full Personality Expression ''(FPE)'', which was formed by Virginia Prince. In 1976, Prince described Tri-Ess as "an organisation limited to heterosexual cross dressers and to those who are not involved in such behaviour patterns as bondage, punishment, fetishism for rubber, leather or other, or domination and humiliation." Applications to join required the applicant to have purchased three copies of the ''Transvestia'' or Prince's book ''Understanding Cross Dressing''; an interview was not required. Cross-dressing is the act of wearing clothes traditionally or stereotypically associated with a different gender. Virginia Charles Prince (November 23, 1912 – May 2, 2009) was an American transgender woman and transgender activist. She published '' Transvestia'' magazine, and started Full Personality Expression, which later became Tri-Ess, for male heterosexual cross-dressers. Early life Prince was born on November 23, 1912, in Los Angeles, California to a Protestant family. She was assigned male at birth. Full Personality Expression (FPE), also ''Phi Pi Epsilon'', was formed in 1962 by Virginia Prince as an organization for heterosexual male Cross-dressing, crossdressers, based on her earlier ''Hose & Heels Club.'' International Foundation for Gender Education (IFGE) was an American non-profit transgender advocacy organization. The foundation was devoted to "overcoming the intolerance of transvestitism and transsexualism brought about by widespread ignorance." History The International Foundation for Gender Education (IFGE) was first known as the Tiffany Club in 1978. It eventually became the IFGE when founded by Merissa Sherrill Lynn in 1986.
