Trevor Philpott (1924-1998) was a British journalist, writer and director. Man Alive (British TV Series)
''Man Alive'' is a documentary and current affairs series which ran on BBC2 between 1965 and 1981. During that time there were nearly 500 programmes tackling a range of social and political issues, both in the UK and abroad. The series was commissioned by David Attenborough, while he was Controller of BBC2 between 1965 and 1969. British television journalist and presenter Esther Rantzen worked on ''Man Alive'' in the mid-1960s. One of the programme's reporters and series editor was Desmond Wilcox, whom Rantzen later married. Wilcox contributed directly to about 50 ''Man Alive'' programmes. The ''Man Alive'' theme music was composed and played by Tony Hatch and his orchestra. ''Tonight'' is a British current affairs television programme, presented by Cliff Michelmore, that was broadcast on BBC live on weekday evenings from 18 February 1957 to 18 June 1965. The producers were the future Controller of BBC1 Donald Baverstock and the future Director-General of the BBC Alasdair Milne. The audience was typically seven million viewers. Background ''Tonight'' like ''Six-Five Special'', was created by the BBC to fill in the "Toddlers' Truce" closed period between 6.00pm and 7.00pm (the "Truce" was officially abolished only a few days before ''Tonight'' was first broadcast). Desert Island Discs
''Desert Island Discs'' is a radio programme broadcast on BBC Radio 4. It was first broadcast on the BBC Forces Programme on 29 January 1942. Each week a guest, called a " castaway" during the programme, is asked to choose eight audio recordings (usually, but not always, music), a book and a luxury item that they would like to take if they were to be cast away on a desert island, whilst discussing their life and the reasons for their choices. It was devised and originally presented by Roy Plomley. Since 2018, the programme has been presented by Lauren Laverne. More than 3,400 episodes have been recorded, with some guests having appeared more than once and some episodes featuring more than one guest. An example of a guest who falls into both categories is Bob Monkhouse, who appeared with his co-writer Denis Goodwin on 12 December 1955 and in his own right on 20 December 1998. Antony Jay
Sir Antony Rupert Jay, (20 April 1930 – 21 August 2016) was an English writer and broadcaster. With Jonathan Lynn, he co-wrote the British political-satirical comedies ''Yes Minister'' and '' Yes, Prime Minister'' (1980–88). He also wrote ''The Householder's Guide to Community Defence Against Bureaucratic Aggression'' (1972). For his career as a broadcaster and in public relations, Jay received a knighthood in the 1988 New Year Honours. He also wrote the 1969 BBC television documentary ''Royal Family'' and wrote a 1992 book about Elizabeth II called ''Elizabeth R'', after which he was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order for personal services to the royal family in the 1993 New Years Honours list.
