Trevor Jones (admiral)
Rear Admiral Trevor Norman Jones, is a retired senior officer in the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). He served as Deputy Chief of Navy from 2011 to 2013, Head Military Strategic Commitments from April 2013 to December 2014, and the Commander Joint Task Force 633 from December 2014 to January 2016. Naval career Jones joined the RAN in January 1978 under the Navy scholarship scheme to pursue a Seaman Officer Career. After graduating in 1980 from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Science, he undertook professional seaman officer training in HMA Ships ''Melbourne'' (II), ''Supply'' and ''Derwent'' and HMAS establishments ''Watson'' and ''Cerberus''. Royal Australian Navy
The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) is the principal naval force of the Australian Defence Force (ADF). The professional head of the RAN is Chief of Navy (CN) Vice Admiral Mark Hammond AM, RAN. CN is also jointly responsible to the Minister of Defence (MINDEF) and the Chief of Defence Force (CDF). The Department of Defence as part of the Australian Public Service administers the ADF. Formed in 1901, as the Commonwealth Naval Forces (CNF), through the amalgamation of the colonial navies of Australia following the federation of Australia. Commodore (rank)
Commodore is a senior naval rank used in many navies which is equivalent to brigadier and air commodore. It is superior to a navy captain, but below a rear admiral. It is either regarded as the most junior of the flag officers rank or may not hold the jurisdiction of a flag officer at all depending on the officer's appointment. Non-English-speaking nations commonly use the rank of flotilla admiral, counter admiral, or senior captain as an equivalent, although counter admiral may also correspond to ''rear admiral lower half'' abbreviated as RDML. Traditionally, "commodore" is the title for any officer assigned to command more than one ship, even temporarily, much as "captain" is the traditional title for the commanding officer of a single ship even if the officer's official title in the service is a lower rank. Rear Admiral Michael Julian van Balen (born 16 February 1961) is a retired senior officer of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), who served as the Deputy Chief of Navy from 2013 to January 2016. Early life van Balen was born in Brisbane, Queensland, on 16 February 1961 to Adrian and Cath van Balen. Naval career van Balen joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1978 and graduated from the Royal Australian Naval College in 1982. van Balen has served in a various billets within the Australian naval high command and United States Navy commands. Rear Admiral Davyd Rhys Thomas, (born 2 May 1956) is a senior officer in the Royal Australian Naval Reserve. Naval career Davyd Rhys Thomas was born on 2 May 1956 in Newcastle, New South Wales, and joined the Royal Australian Navy College from that city in 1974. After gaining a Bridge Watchkeeping Certificate in 1978, he served as executive officer of HMAS ''Aware'', a Darwin-based patrol boat. Thomas was promoted to lieutenant in 1979, during which time he commenced his warfare training, and served on HMAS ''Brisbane''. A short stint on the staff at the RAN Apprentice Training Establishment, prior to professional warfare specialist training in the United Kingdom, followed in 1983.
