''Apotreubia'' is a genus of liverworts in the family Treubiaceae. There are four species, including: '' Apotreubia nana'', which is found in subalpine New Guinea, and '' Apotreubia pusilla'', which has a disjunct distribution between eastern Asia (Himalayas to Japan) and British Columbia. The genus name of ''Apotreubia'' is in honour of Melchior Treub (1851–1910), who was a Dutch botanist. He worked at the Bogor Botanical Gardens in Buitenzorg on the island of Java, south of Batavia, Dutch East Indies Batavia was the capital of the Dutch East Indies. The area corresponds to present-day Jakarta, Indonesia. Metzgeriales is an order of liverworts. The group is sometimes called the simple thalloid liverworts: " thalloid" because the members lack structures resembling stems or leaves, and "simple" because their tissues are thin and relatively undifferentiated. All species in the order have a small gametophyte stage and a smaller, relatively short-lived, spore-bearing stage. Although these plants are almost entirely restricted to regions with high humidity or readily available moisture, the group as a whole is widely distributed, and occurs on every continent except Antarctica. Order ( la, ordo) is one of the eight major hierarchical taxonomic ranks in Linnaean taxonomy. It is classified between family and class. In biological classification, the order is a taxonomic rank used in the classification of organisms and recognized by the nomenclature codes.
