Trenton Hercs
The Trenton Sting were a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Trenton, Ontario, Canada. They were a part of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. History In 1981, the Belleville Bobcats of the Metro Junior B Hockey League moved to Trenton. In 1987, the Bobcats moved back to Belleville, but Trenton was granted a Junior C franchise in the Central Ontario Junior C Hockey League. In 1989, the team moved over to the Eastern Ontario Junior C Hockey League that season, in which they stayed until 1995. In 1995, the ownership of the team was granted the rights to a Junior "A" team, and renamed the Sting. To fill the void in the Junior "C" loop, the Sting created a farm team known as the Brighton Buzz. After two seasons, the Buzz became the Colborne Blackhawks. Two seasons later, the team folded. The Sting were sold to a private group and changed their name to the Quinte West Pack. After the name change, the Pack played the franchises' worst season since 1996-97. On April 10, 2008 ... Trenton, Ontario
Trenton (2001 population 16,770) is a large unincorporated community in Central Ontario in the municipality of Quinte West, Ontario, Canada. Located on the Bay of Quinte, it is the starting point for the Trent-Severn Waterway, which continues northwest to Peterborough and eventually Port Severn on Georgian Bay. History The Trenton area is part of the traditional area of the Mississauga and other Indigenous First Nations. The first known expedition by Europeans in the area was one by French explorer Samuel de Champlain, which followed the Trent passing through Trenton in 1615. The Trent River is known to the Mississauga as ''Sangichiwigewonk'', or 'fast flowing.' Settlers gave it the name 'Trent', after the River Trent in England. The area around the mouth of the Trent River was first settled by Europeans in the 1780s, after the area was ceded to the British in 1783 as part of the Crawford Purchase. 1997–98 OPJHL Season
The 1997–98 OPJHL season is the fifth season of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League (OPJHL). The twenty-two teams of the MacKenzie, MacKinnon, Phillips, and Ruddock Divisions competed in a 51-game schedule. The top 4 teams of each division make the playoffs. The winner of the OPJHL playoffs, the Milton Merchants, won the 1998 Buckland Cup as OHA Champions and the Dudley Hewitt Cup as Central Canadian Champions, but failed to win the 1998 Royal Bank Cup. United Hockey League
The United Hockey League (UHL), originally known as the Colonial Hockey League from 1991 to 1997 and last known as the International Hockey League from 2007 to 2010, was a low-level minor league, minor professional ice hockey league, with teams in the United States and Canada. The league was headquartered in Rochester, Michigan, and, in its last year, consisted of seven teams. It folded in 2010, with most of its teams joining the Central Hockey League. The Central Hockey League teams still operating in 2014 were then added to ECHL. The only former CoHL/UHL/IHL teams still active as of 2022 are the Fort Wayne Komets and Kalamazoo Wings. OPJHL
The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) is a Junior A ice hockey league in Ontario, Canada. It is under the supervision of the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) and the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL). The league was listed as the 7th best developmental league in North America for professional and amateur ice hockey in July 2013 by the website, "TheHockeyWriters.com". The league dates back to 1954 where it began as the "Central Junior B Hockey League". In 1993, the Central Junior B Hockey League was promoted to the Junior A level and renamed the "Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League". In 2009, the league was dissolved by the Ontario Hockey Association and split into two leagues: the "Central Canadian Hockey League" and the "Ontario Junior A Hockey League". By early 2010, the two leagues merged to reform the Ontario Junior Hockey League.
